Ed Bott, who sat in at a Microsoft Edge session at Microsoft’s Build conference here in San Francisco, snapped a photo of a slide presented by Microsoft executives. “Build ad blocking features into the browser” is “targeted for the next version” of the browser, version 4682811.

When and if it arrives, ad blocking inside Microsoft Edge would make it the second major browser to natively kill ads; Opera is testing a developer version of its browser that does the same thing. Other browsers have flirted with native ad blocking, including Samsung’s native Web browser for Android.

Why this matters: Whether or not Edge does include ad blocking, however, it appears that the Web has changed. Sites that display ads may find those ads blocked; those sites may, in return, refuse to serve their content to those that do. And so on, and so on.

 

This is good, and I am glad, now hopefully it will be decent and well made (hopefully).

This along with the addition of extensions being added to the next Edge update, it looks as if Edge may be a worthy competitor after all. :)

great !!! except that im using chrome and have adblocker so this effects none whatsoever... microsoft just wanting people to use edge...

I can agree that ads have gotten crazy. With ones popping up right before you click something and you go to their website. Also with Ransome32 someone could have a popup I click it and boom I have R32 but with an adblocker no worries. I don't mind nice sized and scaleable ads but huge auto play video po ups are aids. Also banner ones that don't move as you scroll.

That is just people who view the w3schools website, usually who are learning to develop and therefore not using a Microsoft Browser. Is a terribly skewed source. IEs market share is slightly above or below Firefox, depending on the month.

 

 

As to how this is news - Opera had this feature for YEARS. And it was great, you literally right clicked on and ad and pressed "block content". Then they took it out when they started copying Chrome. So we're going back to like 2007 now!

That is why you don't enable this, and instead use your preferred ad blocking extension, assuming any of this is true. because read elsewhere that they announces that AdBlock Plus is coming.... so maybe the reporter here is getting confused.

Still not reason enough to switch browsers for me.

 

I'm sure Microsoft panicked when they started hearing about malware sneaking through ads in legitimate pages, they'd rather keep their computers secure than have favour with advertisers.

Well, Opera lately released native add-blocking in their web browser. Great addition indeed. I use Opera and it's really the fastest, such an underrated browser.
