the best bang for your buck 980ti is a r9 390 from Sapphire.

For real tho I'd personally recommend MSI's version of the card since the cooler works very well and they also have some of the best customer support I've seen.

Edit : Realised the genlemen before me recommend the same card, so you know, that's that.

Honestly I would suggest the Gigabyte G1
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn98tg1gaming6gd

Why?
Factory overclocked and still a decent price.

EKWB makes a full cover block for it, if you want that option.

The stock cooler works well if you don't.

Gigabyte has used 2 DVI outputs where most others only have 1, in-case you run a multiple display setup that use DVI.

Step one.  Get reference 980 ti

Step two.  Get titan x water block

Step three.  Make people think you have a titan x :D

Just buy the cheapest one that you like the appearance of.  If you're overclocking it, they will all generally overclock to a point where you wouldn't tell the difference between any of them anyway.

my work in progress

Well your basically looking at either a 980Ti as I linked my opinion on why (coming from a reference 980Ti user with a Titan X block on it) or wait for the new GPU's and see what happens in the next 2-3 months.

What do you like about the MSI one? I was just wondering, since it seems some of the 3 fan versions of the card work better in terms of cooling. Are there cool MSI features? Or is that just your aesthetic preferences?

Well the Extreme Gaming has no factory OC and costs more.

The Windforce 3x has a small factory OC and is $10 cheaper.

The OC'ed Extreme is $40 more...

The AIO version is a lot more $...

So bang for buck is the G1...

The new card is based on modified PCB with 14+3 phase power design, which puts it right to the top of most powerful GTX 980 Tis on the market. Only EVGA’s 980Ti Kingpin offers 14+3 design, with MSI’s 980Ti Lightning losing to both cards with 12+3+1 power design.

Although the sample sent to Expreview has 14+3 phase design, the official picture on GALAX website shows 16+3 phase design. However it is unclear which version will be offered for sale.

Speaking of powerful power design, let’s not forget about three 8pin power connectors. Theoretically such configuration could offer 525W of power, but I doubt anyone could get anywhere close to such power demand.

Card is equipped with massive dual-fan cooling solution, which thanks to much wider design accommodates two 10cm fans. The huge heat sink is accompanied by 5 heat pipes, which are hidden under brand new HOF-branded cooler shroud.

Last but not least, GALAX GTX 980 Ti HOF GOC is clocked at 1203 MHz, with boost clock at 1304 MHz. The memory however was not overclocked.

This card is for LN2 Overclocking in mind

1. Forget the kingpin and the galax hof. You need a custom bios to use their full potential.

Get a :

-zotac amp!extreme

Or

-msi lightning

Both Cards run with ~1400mhz factory oc with further potential.

And forget waterblocks. Good aircooled cards reach the same clocksspeeds. With this chip, it doesnt matter if you have 70° or 45° under load.

That white PCB :D that card looks pretty cool, although the red on white is kinda weird. The power input solution is quite cool, ever seen a 3 slot power input cause i dont gaze too often towards high end cards, but since im considering geting one, that looks like a great option

Lightning cards seem not available where i check, and the prices look higher. How good is the ZOTAC 980Ti line? I looked at their triple slot coolers like the Extreme AMP!, and they look compelling

The amp!extreme is a Beast.

Super fast and with 70° under full load (custom curve) cool enough for further overclocking if you want to.
