How come some PCI (Not PCIe) cards have 3 notches when most computers have 2?

PCI had 3.3 volt and 5 volt standards. those are cross compatible cards.

The ones with three notches and a double-wide connector are 64-bit in addition to supporting both, 3.3VDC and 5.0VDC, operating voltages. Here's a pic.

You've seen a 3-notch but normal-width connector? You sure it's PCI?

It could be PCI Express that's abbreviated into PCI-X not PCIe, we see on current motherboards. PCI-X also call PCI Express is a PCI that supports 64bit cards. Most PCI card we used are 32bit because the PCI slot are shorter in length.
