Can't remember if you can overclock the r9 fury's

Admittedly I haven't been keeping up with the Fury launch. I thought I remember them saying the voltage was locked at release

 

Was I drunk then? Are they totally overclockable now?

Well memory is still a beast too deal with, but I'm pretty sure core voltage was unlocked with trixx in november.

They're overclockable, they just don't have a lot of headroom.

I think jayztwocents did something on this.  If i remember correctly he concluded that even if it was unlocked it wasn't very helpful at all, he either couldn't get it to overclock very far or it got too hot or something.  MSI or somebody came out with a program that unlocked the core voltage and that's how he concluded that

I'm having a lot of trouble deciding between an R9 390 or Fury.

 

I'll be custom watercooling either one, so just not sure which has more potential

 

@Numbafieve I might just go with a 390 then, and overclock that bad boy as much as I can. Could eventually get a second one as well :o

You can, it just has next to no performance gains compared to GM200. Worst overclocking gpu core since well... IDK a long fucking time.

Seems nobody here knows that any Sapphire furys are completely unlocked and I believe that ASUS or another followed with their software but i'm only 100% on Sapphire.

BTW the voltage unlock workaround even for HBM was discovered back in July/August.... It only took a really long time for people to get it into their OC software suites.

You can overclock the Fury from sapphire with the custom PCB all the way up to 1200 mhz. We have only one benchmark for it though and its from an AMD biased site whose graphs are hard to read. Most people dont even know a fury with a custom PCB exists so that could explain why reputable publications havent even bothered to benchmark it so we can see if there any signigicant performance gains.

Yes you can over clock the fury's, i myself have gone from 1000 to 1100mhz...you no longer need Trixxx to do this, you can now do it in afterburner, it works perfectly too...

 

I can squeeze 1130mhz just about but it sometimes crashes....its a shame that the fury doesn't over clock better as it has so much thermal head room....

 

The  actual over clocks actually scale well a 10% OC resulting in around 8-10% increase in performance for me.

 

You can over-clock the memory too, but it resulted in no gains for me.
