970 or 390

NicekillBG

Depending on the games you play, but the R9 390 is the superior choice majority of the times as it should be more "futureproof" and faster in general

Which and why?

Also i know Nvidia has better game support just because they copy ea and dont share

GTX 970 because it uses less power and can overclock better. also the 8gb vram is not worth it because its a 1080p/1440p card

The only reason I would choose the 970 would be for Shadowplay since it's second to none IMO.

Besides that, the 390 is faster, cheaper, and has double the VRAM.

shadowplay is shit, deal with it

This topic is like a bad penny. We really need that sticky.

As everyone has rightly said it all comes down to the games you play.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

390 AMD optimised games are going to be a thing, rise of the tomb raider, deus ex and many of dx12 are going to benefit amd, I got a 970 as it was cheaper at the time and I got a game with it mgsv, more vram would be nice I have issue with arkham knight with vram but that game is pretty crummy in terms of optimisation.

I am a bit for the 970 because a 390 is a bit of an over kill but all of you make me go 50/50 again

I didn't know what to put here...

R9 390

Double the VRAM
better performance
60W more power draw resulting in 10$ per year to your power bill assuming 24/7 max GPU usage (see how little it means?)
Temps are not a good argument as that depends on the cooler

Overkill? In what way they're the same price 390 tends to be cheaper.

970 cuz runs cooler and uses less power

basicly this.

i mathed the energy cost out, and because yay insane power costs in belgium my 970 has paid back its price difference by quite a bit already

i dont see the vram as an argument because these two are a thing:

other than that, i use nvidia because i need some nvidia specific features, and because literally every one of my systems is nvidia, and its easier to manage that way.

AMD optimised games ...

Have been a thing since Supreme Commander 2 and earlier. Same goes for NVidia.

So 80% or 40% seems like a no brainer for a 390 but I know quite a few people who go nvidia just for shadow play alone.
