Apple hit with class action lawsuit over iOS 9’s performance on older iPhones

Summary

apple was hit by a class action lawsuit by older iphone users due to the issue with ios 9 slowing down their iphone(iphone 4s specifically) rendering it unusable. Apple claimed that it will improve performance but they did not mention which devices such as iphone 6, 5s, etc. The plaintiffs feel like they're forced into either using a slower phone or purchasing a new one. Apple also does not allow downgrading to a previous versions of ios.

Oh, come on guys....

 

What the hell do you expect? All their older phones to run IOS without issues? Especially on hardware that is 4+ years old.

 

You are given a choice to install it or not, although it may remind you every few days, it doesn't automatically download and install the update, they're lucky they even bothered updating the older generation phones to IOS 9.

 

 

Either way, I had an Iphone 4S with IOS 9 and it ran quite well for old hardware, so I'm not entirely sure what they're talking about.

i'm expecting that i'm using ios 9.2.1 public beta on my daily driver iphone5 and seems smooth, wondering if they try it out before filling the lawsuit and think how old is the device

Interesting. Despite the occasional stutters, apple delivered and made ios 9 faster on my 5s.

What did the owners expect that their phone would magically work forever?

If ios users get mad after 4 years imagine Android.

Tell that to the 5C. That thing is a pile of garbage now. The Icons don't load properly either they just have the developer line icon. People should also sue them about this but on their computers because I know they do it

Interesting. Despite the occasional stutters, apple delivered and made ios 9 faster on my 5s.

 

apple makes my iphone 5 runs faster than ios 9.2 with ios 9.2.1 public beta.

Anyone with sense would have seen this from the start. I did. What's really questionable here is what leads people to believe that in any way iOS 9 would run better than iOS 8 on a 4 year old device. Apple was hyping the "performance increase" so much people forgot about how old their devices are? Pssh.

With iOS 8, my iPod Touch 5th gen became a brick. I kept my iPhone 4s on iOS 7 for that reason. I hope they make an iOS specifically for better performance, not more frickin emojis or something.

They expected Apple to properly warn users before the update, as well as to use correct information when advertising a product or software update. If Apple's page on iOS 9 explicitly states that users will see improvements in speed, and the opposite happened for users on aged devices without proper warning, then Apple needs a slap on the wrist for misinforming consumers.

And I'm not saying the first part isn't true, I admire that Apple is still supporting the iPhone 4S from the start (*looks at Google*), but the issue is still false advertising. Some users may have expected performance improvements and got a slower phone out of it.

That doesn't makes sense I guess, because why would apple improve performance on old devices, apple is focusing on newer devices not older one. Ios 9.2.1 public beta improves my iPhone 5 performance compared to ios 9.2

I actually think this lawsuit is reasonable. Did you people read it or did you just read the headline?

They are not suing Apple because their phones are slow. They are suing Apple because:

1) There was no information about any possibility of a performance deregulation. In fact, Apple's ads says performance is higher which it obviously isn't for a lot of people.

2) Apple makes it impossible to downgrade to a previous version of iOS, which means everyone who upgraded is now stuck with a really slow phone.

 

 

Again, the lawsuit is NOT about their phones being slower. It's about the ads being misleading and Apple offering them no way to revert back to before they upgraded. If Apple did either of those things (warn that updates might reduce performance, or offer people a way to downgrade the OS version) then this would not be an issue, and I think they should do both.

My gf complains about the same thing on her iPhone and MacBookPro(and believe me, I've cleaned both from bloatware as best as possible).

 

Kinda glad I'm on Android, I think my gf wants to switch over somewhat soon. So this doesn't surprise me in the least and I fully support it, either optimize it for older hardware or don't allow older hardware to update and allow people to downgrade now.

Wonder how android would run on a 4 years old phone, would be worse. They should be happy that apple is still providing surport, and accept the fact that it's an old device so slow is a drawback for old devices running modern software
