they don't even have a youtube app

The lack of an official YouTube app, or any Google app, is because Microsoft and Google where in a battle or hatred. The previous CEOs of both Google and Microsoft where rivals. They hated each other. I don't really get why, but it is what it is.

So that is why there is no app. However, Windows 10 Mobile Edge web browser is very competent, and allows you to surf YouTube web site, both Mobile and Desktop websites perfectly well. Basically Edge web browser, is what saves Windows 10 Mobile platform. It is the same web browser as on the desktop, so everything that works on the desktop, works on the phone. Basically, if you treat the phone as you would do on your desktop, you'll have a fine experience.

You also have very competent, and said to be even better than Google very own YouTube app on Android for viewer, as third party app.

Just recently Google released its search engine as an app (Universal app) on Windows 10 / Windows 10 Mobile.. yea, not the most useful/interesting app on the planet, but since the new CEOs of both company, the feud started to calm down. So, it is a very small step forward. Hopefully, things get better, and the consumer gets Google Maps and YouTube official app.

Luckily we can still have MetroTube or TubePro with the same functionality as you described.

Just hope this wont happen again

I've been through a total of 7 YouTube apps on Windows Phone, I hope Google and Microsoft can make some form of an agreement so that we can have the 1st party app that is great.

I am only using MetroTube and I had so far no problems with it at all.

I really like Microsoft's new CEO, Satya Nadella. He's completely changed Microsoft into a company that can work with its former rivals mainly Apple. I really like the path Microsoft is on, turning Windows into a service.

Lol this is such a stretch. The most used "app" in the world is called Microsoft Windows.
1. You cant even uninstall facebook on your phone, it's forced down your throat. The only thing you can do is disable it.

they don't even have a youtube app

That's 100% Google's problem.

HERE is the best for travelling since you can download maps to use offline.

You can download offline maps on Google Maps too.

Project Astoria looks like it'll be coming sometime mid next year. Hopefully Google will jump on board and make their apps available. Fingers crossed!

Or maybe as users, we should be giving shit to google for not making apps available on Windows Phone. They have literally no excuse when they make over 60 billion a year in revenue.

ok but officd 365 isn't the best productivity suite???? also spotify isn't even on the top 10? but i'm pretty sure over 70 million people have used it, more than that garbage apple music app.

I'm inclined to agree, no way that Apple Music maintained an average of 55 million active users during the year as the chart pretends. Especially knowing that they lost 40% of their users after the free trial. Did they magically invent 55 million people out of thin air?

Edit: I would have linked to an article but you need to disable adblock to access forbes now so fuck them.

Most apps already have a win32 program or a web based one. Both of those can be accessed on regular Windows, where all the users are. I don't know anyone who uses the app store for their laptop or desktop.

by no means is it great but I launch the windows store every now and then. I installed a few apps.

It is not a problem of Microsoft that devs are such blind people full of fanboyrism. Google making all the efforts in their hands to avoid MS phones from having an official Youtube app, or Evan Spiegel (Snapchat) not accepting 6snap code (far superior than the official Snapchat apps) from Rudy Huyn when they decided to close any 3rd party app.

Btw, I don't understand why people keep saying there's no Youtube app. Like I would want a crippled experience full of adds with the official Youtube app, when I'm perfectly fine with 3rd party apps like Mytube or Tubecast.

I have youtube on my phone.  I love my Windows Phone, got really sick of both Android an IOS being more about the apps and less about the phone.

more about the apps and less about the phone.

are you kidding? Apple yes, but android is all about phones. There are so many phones out there running android OS you can choose any of them!

And hardware in them is so powerfull, i think todays flagships are more powerfull then many peoples PCs or laptops.

8 Cores, 4 GB of RAM, 16-128 GB flash memory, 1080p, 2k and even 4k screens, cameras with many features, slow motion 4k at 30 FPS and so on.

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

Google made android and they want the world to use their OS not MSs or others, like MS wants you to use their shitty OS Windows. and they are forcing you to use that os by not making programs that are used everyday available for other OSes. (Apple is exception people in USA love macs, that's why office and other apps are available on MAC OS) but not linux. If WP had more market share trust me Youtube and other apps would be available for that OS.

They're not on the list because they don't have a large mobile app user base. They're as big as they are because of Windows, plain and simple. To discredit that because of their poor mobile presence is dumb.

The thing that I'm confused about is the amount of people still using Apple Maps. It may have improved, but I still find Google Maps to be superior when my mom and I are traveling.

According the WANSHOW, Apple Maps = Google Maps now ;/.

Agreed, I firmly believe one of the biggest problems on Windows Mobile is the lack of the full Google Apps suite. Lots of people are tightly integrated into the Google ecosystem, and don't want to switch to the comparable Microsoft apps. Plus the lack of official YT app. The Microsoft one (The web wrapper) actually works great. I've rarely had any issues with it. Though I don't watch a lot of YT on my phone to begin with, since I only have 1GB of Data.

Just hope this wont happen again

Yep, that's Google's fault. They block most third party apps on WM that aren't web wrappers, and at the same time refuse to release their own.

That's because of games.

Hahahahaha.

Hahahahahahaahaha.

PC Gamers are a pretty damn small percentage of the Windows Desktop userbase.

Want to know why Windows is the #1 used Desktop OS? Enterprise/Corporate. When your parents go to work, there's a 99% chance that their workstations are Windows machines, unless they're specialists of some kind.

Not to mention that most households in western society have computers, and most of those people just use them for Facebook and email.

FYI, I'm not counting casual gamers (eg: Facebook games) as gamers, in this context.

Not really. Gamers are not much market share. The real market share are companies, with their hundred to several thousands of computers.

Google strategy is similar to current Microsoft one. Make their app available everywhere, even on a platform from your competition, to try and entice them for a better experience when they switch to them in the future. And at worst (ie: they don't switch), Google still make money on them when they use the companies app.

It's not just that. There is also the problem of WP just not being that good. Even if it was as good as Android and iOS in every single area, people still would not have any reason to switch. It's the same problem as GNU/Linux has. Even if a person could do everything on GNU/Linux as they were doing on Windows, they still don't want to switch because they don't want to leave the familiar Windows/Android.

Yeah, gaming is not the reason why Windows is as big as it is. The reason it is big is because people are used to it and don't want to switch. Selling a computer with an OS such as GNU/Linux would just make customers confused and complain. Like in this video clip for example.

The reason why people are used to it was because Microsoft used illegal methods of getting a monopoly early in the 90's. For example they required PC manufacturers to pay a Windows license for each PC sold, regardless of what OS the computer was running. So HP would have had to pay a Windows license fee for computers that were running GNU/Linux for example. If they didn't agree to that then HP would not be allowed to use any Microsoft software at all. That, along with several other illegal business practices killed off their competitors and made them the monopoly they are today.

Nothing to do with gaming. Hell, the biggest reason why most games are developed for Windows is because it has the biggest marketshare. If it was OS X that had 90% marketshare then it would be OS X that all games were made for.

You just proved my point so perfectly.  Where in any of that did you comment about the call quality, ease of use or even the microphone, things we look for in a phone.  What you just described there was a portable computer for running apps.  While most Windows phones are powerful computers, at least before Microsoft bought Nokia and ruined their phones,  they are a functional phone used to talk to someone.  Did you notice I didn't say text and wait several minutes for a reply and text back and wait even longer for a reply and turn a 30 second conversation into a two hour lol swap.  I still love and find uses for apps, but I don't want them at the expense of having a phone that is more eye candy or status symbol than a phone.  I'm not trying to say Windows Phones are perfect or the Microsoft app store has everything, but it is much better than it was a couple years ago.  The phone works for me and that is all I care about.  Now for the future of the Windows Phone, all I can say is I'm just going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Who even use Office apps on their phones... I tried with my windows phone and it took like 5 minutes to write 3 lines.(bit of an exaggeration, but still took a lot longer than if I used an actual PC)

It's just not worth it.

Then there's the fact that Windows Phone OS just doesn't have dev support... So Microsoft tried making their own apps, some of which were even better than the original, like Youtube. But then Google went all butthurt and decided to block the app from actually using youtube.

yeah but spotify is forever free or premium, it's not like you have a free trial then you have to pay to listen to any of the music, like apple. spotify you can choose to listen to music for free, but fucks us over with limited skips and ads and shit.
