I5vs 8320

a haswell i5 and an 8320/8350 at the same clock speed are nearly identical in performance. there is really no reason to get an 8320 over an i5 if the budget allows. here's a link to the Cinebench spreadsheet from LTT forum users courtisy of @Jumper118

also, with cinebench, there's about a 10 point margin of error due to background applications and other variables.

so my friend is a major fanboy of amd but im damn right sure the i5 (devils canyon/skylake) would outright destroy the 8320/8350 yes they have 8 cores but 4 of those cores are at i believe half performance compared to the other cores anyway you can submit pictures of benchmarks?

Console is better because its cheaper ~console peasants

Witcher 3, it's not exactly superior but the difference is close to non-existent. The main thing the 8350 lacks is the minimums - averages are pretty much identical

you're quite wrong. The way FX works is it takes a core and splits it in two resulting in a bigger increase than a hyper-thread would yield when using both cores but reducing the power when using only one of the cores

In the vast majority of games there will be a big difference in the minimum FPS. In games where the cores can all be utilized (so like maybe Cities Skylines?) then it's fine. However, Intel offers many more features, can be less money if you put your mind to it and has much, much stronger single threaded performance from the factory so it makes more sense for 99% of people.

The cores work together only if it's a heavy task. Not on a per instruction basis

Streaming is a no. Because you often stream games. To stream games you need to play games. To play games i5 is better. Therefore i5 is better for streaming.

Video editing is a strange thing, because many times high single core performance is good for loading small things.

Rendering sure, but i5 is not much slower, especially an overclocked K series one, i'm pretty sure 6600K overclocked renders better.

In short, in games they are destroyed, while in some multithread tasks the 8350 will win, so what performance are you talking about, now the difference in total performance in the tasks the 8350 does well in is 15% ish in the 8350s favor (10% if both max OC) while the single core difference is closer to 40% in favor of intel

general usage?

 

kinda open-ended debate between your friend and yourself.

you first have to understand the CPU architecture platforms on how they

implement the strategies, integrate into the software and usage.

In new games the FX have beaten the i5 quite a few times... Also if he wants AMD why stop him it is his money! x.x

 

Just make sure he wont buy a crappy board or he may have a fire hazard...

 

Still if he plays Arma, Dayz or Dying light he should get the i5! :D

No, that is false. The i5 has 4 cores and 4 threads. The 8320 has 4-8 (idc what people call it) cores and 8 threads. Gaming usually takes up 2 threads, which the i5's threads are better, so it would be better, so that leaves up 2 threads on the i5 and 6 threads on the 8320. The OS and background programs will take around 1 thread so now the i5 has 1 thread to stream on compared to the 8320 that has 5 threads to stream on.
