It is no secret that Linus is smitten with Nvidia considering that he has received multiple of the highest end cards from them every time they come out. 

Look at the top comments on that vid: "I almost fell off my chair at how one sided this video was! When the testing crew leaves out one whole side of the industry, it is so far away from scientific testing it's not funny. Also Linus your should disclose what tech companies are providing you with free hardware. Without this info viewers can't make a fair judgment if your being bribed to make the testing unfair." and "I'm an Nvidia guy myself, but I dislike the fact that there's no mention of AMD cards in this video, from what I've seen they are actually kinda better when it comes to improvements over a long period of time."

There are many instances of people ditching their $700 780ti's once the 980(ti's) came out because performance just tanked in recent games. Many of the people who did get $700 gpu's in the first place can afford to get the latest every time so it didn't matter to them anyways. But it still doesn't change the fact that older generation high end Nvidia cards do not perform nearly as well as they should. A gpu only performs as well as its driver and Nvidia disregards older cards when they come out. They don't have the resources to make new drivers more kepler every time.

Still not acceptable when you have to ditch your $600-700 top of the line card every time a new one comes out just to get comparable performance. 

Not really at all. Look at the GTX780ti is is only limited by Vram but it is still going strong.

It is no secret that Linus is smitten with Nvidia considering that he has received multiple of the highest end cards from them every time they come out. 

Look at the top comments on that vid: "I almost fell off my chair at how one sided this video was! When the testing crew leaves out one whole side of the industry, it is so far away from scientific testing it's not funny. Also Linus your should disclose what tech companies are providing you with free hardware. Without this info viewers can't make a fair judgment if your being bribed to make the testing unfair." and "I'm an Nvidia guy myself, but I dislike the fact that there's no mention of AMD cards in this video, from what I've seen they are actually kinda better when it comes to improvements over a long period of time."

There are many instances of people ditching their $700 780ti's once the 980(ti's) came out because performance just tanked in recent games. Many of the people who did get $700 gpu's in the first place can afford to get the latest every time so it didn't matter to them anyways. But it still doesn't change the fact that older generation high end Nvidia cards do not perform nearly as well as they should. A gpu only performs as well as its driver and Nvidia disregards older cards when they come out. They don't have the resources to make new drivers more kepler every time.

 

That's just stupid. He reviews both sides impartially. The reason Linus uses only nvidia for his personal rig is that he uses game streaming a lot.

again, not sure i understand...no?! why...they just decided not to include it in the graph for this review of the nano i guess...the 290X ''Ubber'' for example was also fully tested and put to database and since it's just an heavily overclocked 290X i thought it was irrelevant to link it since there is no 780ti ''Ubber''... cause i can tell you this: give me that 780ti and i will clock it my way and make it ''ubber'' and i can guarantee you it will slap bitch the 290X ''ubber'' all over the place...

Post a video of your 780ti on its max overclock running GTA 5 at the highest settings(2x MSAA, 2x Reflection MSAA, and Softest shadows) every thing else maxed out including advanced graphics options. My r9 290 at 1120/1350 gets around 40fps. According to benchmarks with the latest drivers the 780ti should get around 10% less performance.

There isn't a 390 listed because anandtech didn't review one. They can't include numbers for card they don't have. Clearly, the 780 Ti is listed there. But missing in the recent benchmark.

My point is how do they NOT have one. Tech Showdown with 10k in subscribers has like 5 of them :lol: , he did keep the 390x as his personal GPU but moving on. The 390x is 100us more and doesn't even have a back plate, all for  an average 2-5fps over the 390.

anyways guys the point of this thread was not to offend anyone, or to prove that nvidia cards are better...or that the 970 perform better than the 390 or whatever...it was to show and discuss about nvidia exclusive features such as TXAA, PCSS and HBAO+ just to name a few and show what they can bring to modern AAA titles and WHY maybe for some users who are looking at a good card for 1080p gaming on a single GPU for the next couple years the GTX 970 COULD STILL be a better choice and certainly a strong contender even though it's slightly slower in some situations and does not include a rediculous 8GB frame buffer.

We need a verified test on this site. I hate getting told the test I did doesn't matter cuz google. If we could verify our results with the staff of this forum it would help those new to the hobby from believing misleading tests done by sponsored testers using components supplied by the company paying for the test. .

I agree. Gameworks does increase the quality of the game, but you can also use Sweet FX for better lighting/colors and more advanced anti aliasing

No Uber is just the Uber mode for the reference 290x. A heavily overclock 290x will perform much better than a "uber" 290x. I thought peeps already knew what uber mode was?

Even Luke got an R9 290. Funny how it crushes the 780 now when the 780 used to cost more than 50% more. Now used 290s go for around $170 and used 780s go for around $200. 290 is still a better deal

Not on Amazon and Newegg. 290s cost more than 390s for the versions worth owning. That's how I ended up with a 390.

I'll retract my statement about the Anandtech database not being up to date. The results are inline now that uber mode is selected. But as you can see, when uber mode is selected, they're pretty much matched across the board. Again, the 780 Ti isn't faster than the 290x.

Because he has a lot more nvidia gpus lying around (they just send him more) and because he realizes used r9 290s are amazing in price to performance? How is that bias?

 

He used amd cards in the surround ultrawide gaming video because they were the only cards with enough vram for the job. That is something in favour of amd in my book. As for the rest, he mostly uses 980tis and titan Xs because not only does he have more than one, in that price range the fury x doesn't make that much sense (or at least didn't a couple of months ago, I am aware performance got better with new drivers - but they can't keep benchmarking everything over and over again) and those cards offer pretty much the best single card performance you can get. The next time he makes a mid range build log we'll see what he uses - I'd place my bet on an r9 390.

I'll retract my statement about the Anandtech database not being up to date. The results are inline now that uber mode is selected. But as you can see, when uber mode is selected, they're pretty much matched across the board. Again, the 780 Ti isn't faster than the 290x.

I don't know if you're joking, but you're also confused about the 290 vs 390. The 290 is an EOL product like the 780ti. END OF LIFE. If you buy it new and the store does not have many, of course they will overcharge. Also, there is little to no price difference between the reference 290x and non reference now a days. I got my 290 gaming for $143. Half the price of the cheapest 390. I have a receipt if you would like me to prove it. It was from microcenter.
