nVidia replied to PCPer:

 

We checked into the observation you highlighted with the newest 165Hz G-SYNC monitors.

 
Guess what? You were right! That new monitor (or you) exposed a bug in the way our GPU was managing clocks for GSYNC and very high refresh rates.
 
As a result of your findings, we are fixing the bug which will lower the operating point of our GPUs back to the same power level for other displays.
 
We’ll have this fixed in an upcoming driver.

thing is I read about this issue long time ago, about the time I researched the GTX970 as a possible purchase

ok, they acknowledged it .. but, these things should happen sooner; there were already user reports on the issue, this is not OK when it's a reaction to a press article

 

but, I salute the press that does it's job and points out flaws in the software and / or hardware

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Well "user reports" are not always visible to Nvidia or don't make it past the office works who don't see the significance.

Its good at least that they acknowledged it and are working on it.

The way the chart is titles is really misleading on it's own

Glancing at this, I don't see why this is a major problem, i really don't have time to read it. 

It should make sense that higher draw rates use more power, but it appears there's a problem with idling at high refresh rates, particaullr when the gpu is not under actual load. I'll look at this more later

Kinds of weird considering people have been bitching about this for years though. With that said though Nvidia cards seems to do better with refresh overclock on DVI-D based connections.Kinds of weird actually.

My monitor doesent even go 1Hz up from the stock 60Hz :(

 

But that is quite some power draw just from more Hz.. lol. Quite bad for people that got NVIDIA card because "it consumes less power".

So all this time Nvidia fans were going on about high power consumption from AMD, their card was probably drawing more power than the equivalent AMD card?

At idle.

And this doesn't affect everyone as my default clock is 135mhz at 144hz.

Glad someone was able check and prove it's malfunction. It should have been caught by the manufacturer before stuff like this rollout to the consumer. What's even better is that it's fixable via software and not through hardware recall.

iPhone 5 64GB, iPad air 128GB, iPod Touch 32GB 3rd Gen and an iPod nano 4GB 3rd Gen. Both the touch and nano are working perfectly as far as I can tell :)

Finally! its been like 2 years since have that problem. I got a ROG SWIFT PG278Q at 144hz with a g-sync and other 2 monitors at 120hz 1080p, my clock speed is 1189mhz idle, not normal and also power usage. I used to have all 3 120hz monitor, no problem and very low idle.  144hz + seem have problem running high idle clock because 144hz? it shouldn't be. Not just ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q, other monitor at very high refresh rates have same problem.
