Why do people actually hate OSX so much?

Other than for gaming, I don't get the hate. I personally prefer Windows 10 on desktops but for me, OSX reigns supreme on laptops.

That whole argument about a lack of apps just needs to go and die because quite simply, its not true. The way the trackpad works to give useful functions such as using four fingers to switch between virtual desktops (which were in OSX as early as 2006 or 7 and improved upon significantly in 2011) or the three finger tap on a word to define a word etc...

It comes with pages for free which isn't as feature rich as Word but its free and can be accessed from iCloud online AND saved as a .docx file if needed with the latest release of Pages which btw significantly improves importing/exporting between .pages and .docx files. I hear many people also say that the terminal is way more powerful under OSX/Linux than Windows's equivalent thus why Google love their Macs for development.

I'm just sick of the needless hate on an OS that is really really good if you give it a shot.

I don't hate OS X. I love it! It's great for productivity and crashes minimally.

EDIT: That being said, I prefer Windows and Linux for compatibility and customizability, respectively.

The only reason why I hate OS X so much is for content creation. Some of the apps I'm using for content creation only runs on Windows (3ds Max, Maya, Motionbuilder, Mudbox). Also as a side too is that the hardware that comes on most Apple computers that has OS X on it is very lackluster and it actually slows down the workflow by a significant margin and they don't offer the absolute best price-to-performance ratio in that realm. Other than that I find OS X not too shabby for everyday use, though I wish Apple will pull their head out of their ass and start selling OS X by itself to compete against Windows.

Adobe apps run fine on OS X, but you'll need Parallels or something similar to run Autodesk software as they're made to run on Windows-powered systems.

Because it took me five minutes to take something from the downloads folder and drop it onto the desktop.

Seriously, why can't I just drag and drop it onto the desktop? What more do you want?

EDIT- I would say I could tolerate it, but it honestly isn't a good OS for me. I hate the app tray (or whatever that retarded thing at the bottom is,) I hate the design, I hate the lackluster functionality, I hate most all of it. I think the only thing I like is Spotlight Search, but Windows now has a better search, too.

I do like iOS though. It's not horrible, and I know how to use it. It took me two minutes to figure iOS out when I got my iPod in 2009, but to use my friend's Macbook? I had no idea what I was doing. When I first used Windows XP in 2005, when I was 5, it was super easy. I didn't get the settings or anything, but it was easy to just double-click a program on the desktop and run it. It was easy to put a program on the task bar (instead of OSX where the app tray is bloated with all of your programs.) It looked clean, and easy to use.

Also, little to no games. And, I've never wanted to use iMovie or the Notepad equivalent. Every app on OSX I don't want.

I used to be quite active here.

nobody really hates OSX, they hate that apple locks in their hardware and overcharges for it because uninformed consumers dont think twice if it has an apple logo on it. brand loyalty is hate-worthy.

But a MBP or a MBA are pretty competitively priced...the locking down hardware thing is understandable.

Lol wut. How did it take you 5 mins? I can literally drag and drop. No issues. I'm curious now, how did you try to move the file?

EDIT: Not trying to troll here, but what exactly does OSX lack in functionality? To me, the Virtual dekstop implementation on OSX is still better.

Yeah that's what really makes me not want to ultimately buy Apple products, specifically their desktop systems. Other than that OS X, as I've said, is not to shabby at all for everyday use, and Apple should be competing in the operating system arena more by selling their OS X operating system by itself as a better proposition for some people who want an Apple piece of software without being locked onto that machine, making the customers' own systems that much more flexible in terms of customization.

Fair enough, tbh, I think when I use Windows for the first time in 5 years next year with my gaming rig, I'm in for one hell of a shock and I might be frustrated too. Been following Windows 10 a lot and I like what I see so maybe the learning curve won't be too bad (and lets face it, anyone on this forum probably wouldn't have problems learning a new OS lol)

There's Hackintoshing for that, but it's illegal. Apple doesn't sell OSX because they only develop it for certain hardware, and it's not compatible with everything. If they sold it, they might actually have to put effort into developing. /s

These days it wouldn't be much of a problem. Windows 10 functions almost identically to Windows 7, except it has a Settings program instead of searching for each settings menu. You'll like it.

Lol, they pretty much never enforce the EULA in the case of hackintoshing.

Where do they not put effort into developing it though? That's a bit of a head scratcher.

Windows 7 was the only Windows I liked because it was actually freaking stable for once.

I hope drivers aren't much of a pain still and that Antivirus software no longer gobbles your resources (think I used Norton 360 when I used to use Windows)

Norton sucks. Also, for most stuff, drivers are automatic. For stuff like GPUs and peripherals, it's different, but it's just as easy as downloading the software off of the manufacturer's website (Keyboards and mice automatically work, but updated drivers might make them function better.)

Right there makes me question the amount of effort they put into their operating system if they can't make it extremely flexible like Windows. And that's why ultimately I like Windows more because it's flexible.

Always has got me scratching my head, thinking "why don't they put more effort into it? They have the resources, they have the capital, hell, they have everything necessary to pull that off."
