What a wild finish. Lando was taken out by a backmarker (Pagenaud) then things got funky. SPAM was 1-2-3 at the final restart.

Was that an intentional pit maneuver on the final home-stretch there?

Just yday I started my adventure with racing sims (AC, T150RS).

Did something like 20+ laps in Miata on Laguna Seca and I'm just terrible :D.

It takes a while, but eventually it'll kind of click and you'll get the hang of it. A big thing that a lot of people seem to do is crank up the FFB real high, don't do that. Keep it at a reasonable level.

It looks a little like Santucci was trying to pass close and then the guy in front kind of veered into him.

As an aside, Pretend Race Cars has once again been "shut down." I've started up a subreddit in an attempt to get more open discussion going without silencing criticism or having to shut everything down.

Ahh, great success for sim racing, with the Rfactor2-WEC Le mans this weekend, ended up nearly following it as much as i watch the real Le Mans, and being able to join though youtube streams, following the team chats, and mindset of individual racers was nice..

had to spin up Rfactor 2 again, but damn i am rusty, got 10 laps yesterday in the Ferrari 488 on softs, but without setup so i am missing around 20kph on the straights, so 4.00.34 was the best i could do, Far from the 3.48.xx of the fastest porsche, and the normal laptimes they did in race of 3.50-3.55 ish. (they did a "guest" leaderboard on danish tv on a DD2 wheel and sprint pedals, the best they did in a "unsetup" car was 4.06 and most was in the 4.22ish+)

so guess i need to work on setups. still nice to play Rfactor again, way better driving experience than Iracing.

still NICE day..

guess it is time to upgrade the old Clubsport V2.5 wheel and pedals to a Sprint Pedal set and DD2 wheel.

don´t think the wife deems that as a "great" investment.

I watched a good 16 hours of Le Mans Virtual at the weekend, it was a fantastic race with some amazing drivers, i have done about 10 laps of Le Mans in the 488 since picking it up this week, i am down to a 4.09, with a few setup tweaks, I need to gain a bit of confidence in the cars breaking and i think ill be under 4.00 with a bit of practice and few more setup tweaks.

the 488 has so much work to be done with it, i feel like it is the worst setup car of the 911, Corvette and 488... the 911 however is the one that i seem to have the hardest time to save, when i get it wrong..

i just love when the 488 setup is right, it really feels like i can get rotation on it.. and placement is a joy in that car... there is so much more time in it to gain, with correct setup... yes the 4.00.36 was with stock setup, but low fuel, soft tires, and qualifying settings on the fuel.

I have never got on with any 911's in sim racing, in GT3 I always drove the 488 (AC,ACC,RF2,PC2,AM), always found it a lot of fun to drive even if the breaks are a bit scary on it.

i must admit, i normally go for the LMP cars.. but i do love the 488 in this.. there is just something about the 911, in real life if i lived in any other country than EXPENSIVE car country Denmarks, then i would have had a new 911 2S in the carport.

I usually drive F1 cars and GT3, i used to drive road cars in AC using the H pattern GB, not done that for a while though (too lazy to set it up). I am going to play more RF2 and PC2, the FFB in RF2 is superb, and in PC2 it acceptable at worst. I think i am mostly going to be playing endurance races around Le Mans though, i love that track so much.

love the stick shift, but i am not using it, since i run the Rseat N1, which is a 100KG rig, but the shifter is mounted, so i can feel the shifts in the seat, from my Fanatec shifter. it annoys me, everything else is ROCK solid.. so i only use the wheel shifters.

need to find a solution to decouple the shifter from the rig, but having it stable.

Quote

Kris Pope: Lead Designer: As in the real-world, drivers drive, and mechanics and the team worry about the minute details, and that’s what we wanted to aim for with Project CARS 3. In the end, it doesn’t  matter what series it is—an amateur weekend or track-day or the top echelon of motorsport where 300 engineers with science degrees are pouring over reams of data—drivers are there to drive. And that’s really what we wanted to highlight with this new game. We wanted to bring a renewed focus on the driver and the racing. So now you don’t need to spend hours in a practice session working out the tyre life of a set of tyres for one car in one condition, and you don’t need to do the maths on how many litres of fuel you need to finish the race, and you won’t be punished for picking the wrong strategy and so on.

...

Nick Pope: Principal Vehicle Handling Designer: So, for example, by removing tyre wear and fuel usage, we could in turn remove pitstops, which resulted in much closer and more consistent racing. Thus, the whole process of getting to the part that matters most—the actual racing and driving of these amazing cars and their upgrades—became a far easier and more streamlined affair. All these game design decisions have had great results in terms of the racing— with the tyres at their optimal range all the time and fuel at optimal load, there is no break in the action to stop for more fuel or new rubber. It’s pure racing action, and it’s just made Project CARS 3 into a much better racing-driver experience.

...

David Kirk: Principal Physics Programmer: Though none of that means we’ve simplified the tyre model. It’s just all happening under the hood. Overall, this change has kept the focus on the racing and less on engineering tactics. It makes the racing fairer—it’s about what you do behind the wheel that counts—and as a driver it makes the experience a lot closer to what you’d get in the real world.

Seems like an incredibly weird concession to make, like it's probably more a cover up for their weird tire wear. Or trying to quickly just get new tires and/or fuel up. I couldn't ever actually figure that shit out driving into the pits without reaching for my mouse so I just disabled it or restarted the session. Personally I don't much care one way or another about tire wear and pit stops, but to remove it is super weird. Especially when multiple race series require at least one pit.
