3 months away from being 16,which means I'll be able to drive and get a job (finally?)

And I've been looking at buying a used car, this is very easy for me since my mom's boyfriend fixes and sells Miatas. So I'll probably buy one of those off of him.

Since I'm a person who likes to mod as many things as I can, i would like to mod the Miata a little.

I'd like to know of some mods that you can do to a car, aside from body kits, rims, exhaust, muffler, paint, push to start, a load of safety and security mods, and some hood dampeners.

I will be doing a build log of this if this ever happens.

Hopefully it does and hopefully all goes well.

Don't get a Miata and invest a ton of optional cash on one. Just try looking for another more expensive vehicle (if you can) altogether

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

CAI /w tune (dont tell me this does nothing, with a proper CAI and a tune it'll make a difference) competition cams, E85, headers and exhaust then you have yourself a peppy little miata.

for suspension coilovers and new tires

look for the NB chassis the fixed lights Miata 1.6L or the 1.8L

if you can find a NA chassis aka the pop up lights at great value and condition

grab it

changing the tyres from the stock rubber will net better handling then just changing the suspension.

if the car is using any cold air intake open pods. try to get rid of it and look for the stock MX-5 airbox and invest in a good stainless steel mesh drop in filter

those open pods actually cause the engine to lose power as the pod is sucking the hot gases generated by the engine in the engine bay.

good grounding and ignition cables with good plugs will recover the power lost over the year

also try to do an engine flush to rid of the carbon deposits and give the engine a vacuum check for compression lost which you many need to replace the piston rings and check for worn cylinder walls which is a sure sign of a bad engine condition.

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Just pick up a tow line, jump leads and a first aid kit to start off. And a small tool kit. (Should be in all cars)

Don't modify a car straight away. Drive it for a while first

You'll find out what you like and what you don't

And you'll get a better idea of what you want to do to your particular car.

Just plasti dip the whole damn thing lol. I did it to my car and it looks really nice :)

gglo69W.jpg

Aside for that though, you could get some nice headlights (may seem boring but buy the nice ones and you'll see a big difference from crappy stock lights)

cold air intake, window tint, a new stereo head unit would be nice, a lady for the passenger seat :P (kidding but still), idk if you like the look or not but headlight and tailight smoke paint to black out the covers. i personally dont like it on most cars but still thats a preference thing. hmm what else. for the key remote thingy you can buy replacements online in any color, you could also get a backup camera and satelite radio installed (if you get the head unit) and there's also a kit for like $130 that gives you the backup sensors so you dont run into anything. Hope this helped. I'll post more if i can think of anything else.

Pretty sure for those cars you can also get side mirrors that have turn signal arrows in them. And heated seat kits are like $100 if it doesn't have them. Oh and get some nice wiper blades. Don't be cheap on those. And rain x is nice too.

I think it's worth pointing out that when you go to get a new car in a few years, any mods you've installed on your car will likely NOT count towards the trade-in value. Weigh for yourself the pros and cons of having a cool car for a few years vs. trading in for a better car down the road (driving puns!)

Loads of stuff you can do to Miatas/MX5s, what depends on the age though. If you get an older one you will probably have some restoration issues to tackle first though. Post up some pics when you get the car and I'm sure we can come up with some suggestions. Not really in the spirit of cheap mods, but I'm just going to leave this link here ... http://rev9autosport.com/ for all Miata & MX5 owners bank account emptying needs.

You are not supposed to plasti-dip your tail lights.

And as for good mods? Invest in some decent-ish tires and brakes. A 500 hp engine will do you no good if you can't stop the car. After that? I don't know. Try to mod in an AUX jack into the car if it doesn't already have one.

I never said Plasti-dip your tail lights, I said tint them. If you look at mine, it is in no way opaque as its illegal almost anywhere.

I know. But I'm just not a fan of heavily tinted lights. Because you know, visibility. Unless there are some high output lamps behind all of that tint.

It can make the car look good, sure. But some people have them so tinted that you can barely make out that they are using lights, even when braking.

Forgot to mention I did a full LED conversion on the Reverse/Brake lights. Changed all the bulbs, did all the coding, hence the coding, changing the bulbs to 4k ones cost me less than $100 to do all the bulbs for each light. The material of the tint I used may look like its a very dark tint but rather at night time even before the LED conversion, the amount of light shown was equivalent to no tint.
