whats going on with nvidia and luke

pagani123

That is the second most stupidest thing people do over being a fanboy. Wasting $300 of your hard earned money, To what? Say you have a extra 6GB of vram that a single Titan X alone cannot even utilize since it's not strong enough. To get a extra 2-3 FPS for a extra $300-$350? No, it's not worth it and you should rethink your decision because the Titan X is one of the worst price-performance cards on the market right now. Atleast with the 980Ti you get many aftermarket cooler choices allowing for higher overclocks which in theory means even more FPS per dollar.

it is a gift from my dad he got a great price on it considering its back ordered and goes for 1500 now

Why do people care if other people "waste" their money? If OP wants something and can afford it,

sure, why not, it's his money after all. I mean, I got an original Titan and a 2CPU machine.

Not because it was reasonable, but because I wanted it, plain and simple (EDIT: That said, I

do actually have a use for it, but still, I could live my life without that stuff it push came to shove

/EDIT).

Anyway, sorry for the mini-sorta-rant. Keep it civil, people.

If you're asking if Luke has some inside information, he wouldn't be able to disclose that

anyway as he'd still be under NDA. But a successor to the Titan X is not likely to appear any

time soon as it's not that old yet and the pressure from AMD isn't really high enough to

justify rolling out a new chip at the moment. At least that's my two cents.

Because you want bragging rights, apparently. The K|NGP|N is a very rare card, and the Titan X reference cooler sucks ass, so the cooler will be hindering the full potential of the card anyway.

not the reference titan hybrid from evga

someone understands where im coming from i know its not practical. and i wasn't specifically asking luke just havent heard any roumers recently so i was just wondering

i mean im doing a full custom loop with an inwin 909 and alpha cool hardline tubing im not really concerned about the price per dollar and the value of one gpu over the other.

Exactly what price are you paying for this Titan X? Any thing over $800 will be over priced and not worth your time. Some thing I can see people paying more money for like for example buying $10-$35 for a different brand since they wanna suport the one they like or not. To pay hundreds more to you have 12GBs of VRAM thst you will never see go above 6 since the Titan X would not be able to handle it is bery stupid,

I do not simply care what people spend their hard earned or gifted money on but if you can get something for cheaper that will do the same thing, you better bet I will be suggesting it left and right. I can see spending a little more to maybe buy from a brand you like or,to color match and a few other things but for bragging rights, it's not worth your time and your money.

Sir, a car and a GPU are two totally different worlds. The difference between owning a classic card and a overpriced GPU is huge.

$750 for the 980Ti version that will do the same thing. If you wanna simply waste you, and your fathers money to say you have specs in your rig thst you will never see the full potential of, go right ahead. It's a silly thing people do, is spend momey for bragging rights. It's like buying a pair of Beats or a pair of shoes for $500+ just for a fashion statement, it makes no sense.

All a 980Ti KingPin is, is a GPU that was specfically picked out since it can overclock well. It is like buying a lottery ticket you are almost guranteed to win.

A BIRTHDAY GIFT? I am lucky to get $20-$30 if that. If you didn't pay for it, whatever it's obviously too late. I would sell thst thing for $900-$1,000 and get a 980Ti hybrid. You would have some spending cash to do whatever you want with.

I'm probably biased, but bashing him about his decision even after he said he knows about the other options is counter intuitive to the topic of the post.

any rumors  because i am in the process of buying a titan x and i dont want a new gpu to come out right after i spent 1,000 on this one

The point that some people are missing is the above. There was no mention of a gift or it having already been bought. That's why the comments of price to performance etc.

If you'd disclosed this info right at the start (something a truck ton of people need to learn to do) then the tone of conversation would have been vastly different I'm sure.

If it's a gift then there's really no point to the thread at all. It's a top of the line GPU now, be happy.

The Titan X will last you a LOOOOOOOOONG time, so I wouldn't worry about a new GPU.

For bragging rights, not so long.

Also, the original Titan was launched just two and a half years ago. Now, even a $350 R9 390 can beat it.

yeah but tell that to those guys who bought vanilla titan at the day of launch and are still rocking it and maxing out games at 1080p 2 and a half years+ down the road...it's quite amazing IMHO some people upgraded their cheaper nvidia or AMD GPU's 2 or 3 times during this timespan and all along the way have had performance worse than the titan and in the end it end up costing the same ;)

That said, OP get the 980ti it's the same performance for much less.

Haha, like how you phrase it. I bet if you spent $1,000 for a GPU, you won't be too happy to game with just 1080p.

Let's say the $999 Titan X was matched as surpassed by a $650 card, 980Ti in just three months.

2 and a half years ago 1080p was the standard and still is today...that said i game on a 1440p 144hz Gsync display with my GTX780 perfectly fine and this card is around 10% slower than a vanilla titan ;)

no doubt the Titan X was not worth it though...the 980ti with it's 6GB of VRAM is plenty for a while.

I can only speak for myself. I primarily financed my machine by being disciplined about saving

money and doing the odd job here and there (college student). And even then it's a multi-year

project. So I'm definitely not rich, I'm just very rigorous in prioritizing what I spend my money on.
