PowerColor releases the R9 390x2 Dual GPU

OAcesync

-snipsies-

Look, I'm not going to argue. I know more than enough about wiring and electricity because I've dealt with it enough, including wire tolerances.

295X2's draw more power than a seriously large amount of power supply cables can support. End of freaking story.

It's from a news report on Techpowerup which is a legit tech source so yes.

Explain the many reported cases of power supply cables melting or catching on fire. Sorry, but the limit is the limit, you aren't supposed to go over it,

Yeah I hate how they say double the Vram when even though it technically it doesn't actually stack so people who don't know much about crossfire or SLI will actually think it's twice the Vram. And I hope they can keep the temps please able

It does not stack in dx11, with dx12.... with enough additional coding work (granted not a given), developers can access each memory pool as additional graphics memory.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

I doubt very much the cooler will be on par here.

This doesn't look that much larger or stronger than the AMP extreme cooler and even if that thing is super overkill for 250W TDP, it won't be for 500-550W.

Fans will need to spin at near max all the time.

Does it have more power connectors? If not....well that is really asking for trouble.

Edit: It does, 4 8pin so 600W of power through them.

1. Heat

2. Power consumption

3. Worse performance when compared to 2 separate R9 290X in crossfire

actually it was cooler than 2 290x even with aftermarket coolers and it performed slightly better than 2 290x.

If you have a crossfire compatible motherboard, just get two cheap R9 290's instead for half the price (or less). ;)

It is a pretty awesome looking card though, IMO. Unfortunately, given the current options available out there, I don't think I could really recommend this.

1. The 295x2 is water cooled, so no. Yes, it still produces heat, but that heat is mostly exhausted outside your case.

2. Yes and kind of sketchy IMO because using only two 8-pin connectors for two GPUs with 290w TDP each, definitely exceeds the max rating for those connectors by A LOT (150w for each 8-pin). It should have come with three 8-pin connectors.

3. No, not really because they were factory overclocked 290x GPUs in the 295x2. So depending on which 290x's you're comparing it to, it should be more or less the same.

1. That heat warms up your room

3. They may have been factory overclocked, however they couldn't be overclocked as high as 2x 290X while having everything remain at a safe temperature. Ever seen how hot the VRM gets in a 295 X2 compared to an R9 290X?

sounds like advertisement for a laptop

heat and power consumption shouldnt be that important for a desktop unless electricity is insanely expensive where you live

then dont  get a small room

and they should clock higher than 2 r9 290x because they are cooler and there is a fan blowing at the vrms

Again, compare the temperatures of the VRM on an R9 295X2 to that of 2 separate R9 290X. And my room is far from small, with 1 side being all windows and the air blowing right through. Plus my entire computer consumes less power than an R9 295 X2.

Can't wait for Jay to get this one in!

Could someone explain to me what the benefit of this card is over 2x 390x in CF?

Besides the amount of space is there any real benefits??

Higher frame rate over higher resolution.
