I'm not convinced they haven't been doing it before Windows 10. 

The NSA anyway does whatever they want. Not really ever completely safe from spying no matter what OS you use. (Besides maybe something like Tails.)

My laptop is windows 8.1 for school :/. If I ever want to upgrade I can go get .windows 10 up at my college for $20 lol

They didn't give me a student copy, though. I got Windows 10 Pro for $10. I downloaded the ISO through Microsoft's website and they gave me the key.

I'm not saying there's absolutely no spying in them (though I have gone through and removed any telemetry related updates), there's just a fuckton less if there is any at all lol

Finally somebody who took the words from my mouth about this issue. People seem to think I'm crazy that when I suggest that you shouldn't be surprised that it's a bit creepy because it's a bit free....

I tried testing this for myself and the only Microsoft servers I got were... Skype servers. Nothing for Windows Photo Viewer, though.
