British born ISIS hacker targeted & killed in drone strike

In our country, liberals and democrats are the same thing. Libertarians and democrats however, are different.

And when are you going to provide a legitimate argument backed up by evidence?

It's a cultural difference. For them liberals are libertarians. For us, liberals are anyone who is on the left and "liberal" in their "beliefs".

Ah gotcha. My ignorance then. Fair enough.

And his. For not using the term for the country that he is talking about.

Let the nationalistic @Albatross show me evidence how USA is the "most tolerant country" or "image of tolerance" first.

To be fair, a lot of the current left-wing of America is partly left-wing, more centrist, and corporatist.  In contrast the right-wing is hard right, but corporatist.  Libertarians just want the constitution to be upheld.  Then you have people wanting democratic-socialism / American version of Scandinavia, and then the progressive hard left, and then we have all the people who don't vote and view the entire system as rigged.  Which it is.  Which all brings us back to the topic at hand:  Should drones be allowed to deliver baked goods and groceries?  Find out next time, as this thread is surely being locked within the hour.

Oh I wouldn't go that far, not at all. I just wouldn't go anywhere near calling us the most intolerant country in the world. There are A HELL OF A LOT BETTER candidates. North Korea, India, etc.

At the least, we aren't the most ass backwards.

I just want a free market economy, with severe limitations on patents and copyrights, as well as profit margin percentages. In my mind, we'd be better off with a shit ton of smaller corporations rather than a few extremely large corporations.

I have dissenting views on more social issues, but out of politeness I won't get into them. (abortion, gay marriage, etc.). Willing to bet that you, or anyone else, can't predict them either.

Because MODS act childish by locking threads. It's kinda communistic to censor certain threads by locking or deleting comments.

That's why people love and use Reddit and now protest against the subreddits that got shutdown.

So can you please how the US is tolerant compared to European countries?

I'm pretty sure that a good number of people want this thread to be shutdown (myself included).

It's literally going nowhere except the mindless bickering (not pointing any fingers here).

Fair point.

Still, Russia? Far more intolerant of homosexuals than the US currently is. At least if you count popular opinion.

Mods are going to lock threads like these because they violate rules stated in the CoC. The CoC exists because it is needed to make this a healthy community. And a forum like this cannot be compared to Reddit, since on that site, there are separate subreddits that are utterly distinct from other portions of the site, whereas this forum targets a specific community and everything is mashed together. An anything goes style just wouldn't work here.

And for the record, Communism is about as far left as you can get. It's the far right that usually tries to censor stuff, like dictatorships and fascism.

Nawh.  Not so much Communism.  More like interventionism, given the forum is a forum, and there're things that there are rules against to keep the place civil and everyone is heated and opinionated.

We don't need an "anything goes" style, we need a hell of a lot more mods, so that threads like this can be "cleaned up" and kept polite. Not that our mods aren't good at what they do, they're just overwhelmed by the ridiculous amount of traffic that LTT gets.

If the LTT forums had three or four times as many mods as they currently do, then maybe things would be a bit different.

Yeah, US which just legalized gay marriage like 1 month ago.

So I'm pretty sure the Scandinavian, Netherlands and Switserland are the "image of change and tolerance" and NOT US like nationalistic @Albatross says.

The Netherlands has a long history of social tolerance and is generally regarded as a liberal country, having legalised abortion, prostitution and euthanasia, while maintaining a progressive drugs policy. In 2001 it became the world's first country to legalise same-sex marriage.

Lol I don't think 100% unemployment would be a good idea, people need things to do besides recreation.

But we are far over from full automatization.

It is not inherently these types of discussions that cause hate amongst users. It is the people discussing these topics, namely you. A while back, I saw a perfectly coherent, calm discussion about religion. There was a huge amount of differing viewpoints, but it never got heated from what I could tell.

What we need, is to end the idea of currency. Where people "work" on things that interest them (their hobbies) instead of having to work jobs that they hate, to buy shit that they can't afford (credit and debit are financial enslavement)

A society where "needs" are taken care of via automation and what I like to call "micro manufacturing". Also known as "The Replicator" in the Star Trek universe.

Well yeah, trying to discuss against a bunch of nationalistic Muricans which like each other posts at 4 AM is kinda hard.

Reminds me of people trying to talk or post about PC in /r/gaming and getting heavily down voted by all the console plebs.

So in the last 5 pages I haven't seen anybody from outside the US.

Hah, that reminds me of one kid in my government class. He wanted, jokingly of course, to hollow out the moon and make a death star out of it. He said it would cost *insert ridiculous sum of money here* but then said that we should instead adopt socialism and get rid of currency altogether and work for the greater good or something along those lines. He's about as far left as I am, in a very conservative place.

We'll get there one day.  Full automation.  And yes - 100% unemployment wouldn't be good without world-wide societal, economic, and education based change as well as the likely end to religions as a whole in favor of philosophical learning and self-improvement.  Humans will probably be able to pursue leisure at one point in history in the not-so distant future(granted my view of not-so distant is 500 or less years) on a global scale.  It is a ways off, but it is an inevitability if education and free-thinking take root in most of world societies.  Time is always the answer.
