5820K or 6700K

Do you think I should get the 5820K or 6700K, money is not an issue, I will be getting the X99 Godlike or Z170 Gigabyte Gaming G1, do you think the 5820K will be better because it is 6 cores which will be used for DirectX12, I might be upgrading to Skylake E when it comes out.

5820K has more cores and slightly worse per-core. I would say 5820k.

If the trend continues as it did, that mobo will support the next gen of extreme intel cpus, and it's a 6 core, it will beat the 6700K on most applications that are very CPU bound, probably not much of a difference in gaming tho.

If this is for gaming I see very little point in the 5820K. The 4790K already has no trouble outperforming it in most games when clocked higher, and Skylake is slightly faster than that. Unless you want to use three or more video cards, go with the 6700K in my opinion.

 

DirectX 12 is supposed to reduce CPU overhead, so while it may allow DX12 games to exploit more processing cores, at the same time it may also mean you need a much less beefy CPU anyway. Core i7's are already overkill for most games, DX12 is probably not going to make them any more necessary than they are now.

What is this for, gaming or work? What applications, if it's the latter? Do you intend to use more than two video cards?

Is that from reviewers or actual users, because Intel gave reviewers insanely bined G3258 CPU's and made everyone think they could hit 5ghz with stock cooling no problem with them.

My goal is to do 4X-way sli in the next 5 year that the PC will last so I'm also thinking about the 6700K... but I won't get a Hashwell-E cpu because they are already 1 year old... would rather wait for Skylake-E in 2016.

Skylake E is in 2016 it seems now, Broadwell E is Q2 2016

I mean Skylake E is 2017, it is Cannonlake but it has been delayed because of 10nm, they are finding it difficult to make it, does Skylake E use X99, I was thinking it is another chipset
