People still use credit cards in 2015?

Credit cards are essential. At least in the UK. You won't get a mortgage without a good credit history.

So you tell ME to "google it". I'm the one who bought over 100 keys there, and sold about 20 of my own leftover keys without 1 problem.

A key is a key, if it's not "authentic" you will get an error and won't be able to redeem the key on Steam.

Stop being a twat. I use G2A, but agree that it is a slight risk.

Just because you haven't had a problem doesn't mean there aren't problems. It's happened to plenty and I've seen it a lot. Eventually you'll come across a fake key and have problems with Steam and lose those 100+ games you have on your account.

Maybe unlike the other people I got brains? I only buy from sellers with good ratings.

Also don't worry about my account honey, the worst can happens is to get your game removed, but Valve is too lazy for that.

Also, the problems only happend with Ubisoft games on Uplay which is logically, because Ubisoft owns Uplay.

No, you don't have brains. People with good ratings are likely the people who don't sell legit codes. Some will some won't. The codes work temporarily but then they get invalidated, and Valve isn't as lazy as you think. It's happened to plenty where they lost their account.

Nobody ever has lost a account lmao. What if they bought the key from a official reseller like GreenManGaming or from a Humble Bundle?

I pretty much never buy a new game on G2A because GMG has great discount codes, now for example 26% off every pre-order including Fallout 4 and Just Cause 3.

If you are only buying on Steam, then you might aswell go buy a console because the prices on Steam are bullshit.

Please tell me how G2A isn't "legit".

And retail sales don't count because the whole world must have access to that sale.

While i will not bash anyone that uses or recommends G2A, i personally will never use it for an MMO game again. I purchased a key from G2A (not from the listed resellers below, but from the advertised key by them) and about a month later, Zenimax banned my Elder Scrolls Online account, along with several thousand other players for buying "fraudulent keys" from unauthorized third party dealers. They then released an official post on their forum with the proper authorized retailers, which did not list G2A on it.

http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/171736/deactivation-of-fraudulently-obtained-esotu-game-keys

While I would probably be fine with purchasing steam games, or single player games, i would not risk doing another MMO where they take these keys far more seriously.

The Deactivation Email:

Greetings,

We are contacting you to advise you that the game key associated with your The Elder Scrolls® Online: Tamriel Unlimited™ account has been identified as a compromised key that was originally obtained fraudulently and then re-sold to you. Because of this, your account will be deactivated on Tuesday, May 26th. We encourage you to contact the retailer who sold it to you as well as your credit card company for a refund.

To continue playing The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited after May 26, you must either apply a valid game key or purchase the game directly from The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited PC/Mac Store to regain access to your account. All your characters, progress, and other game information will be retained, so after you reactivate your account with a valid key, you can continue your adventures.

We’ve recently seen an increase in the sale of fraudulently obtained digital game keys for The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. Unscrupulous people engaging in this black market activity purchase Steam keys in bulk using stolen credit cards, and then resell them to unsuspecting consumers.

Fraudulently obtained keys obtained via Steam and then re-sold via third-party websites is a violation of both our and Steam’s Terms of Service.

We understand that your characters and progress are important to you, and your account will remain available for use once a new legitimate key is applied. To avoid unknowingly purchasing a stolen digital Steam game key for ESOTU, we urge you to please only purchase digital game keys for ESOTU from official retailers. Please click here to see our list of authorized retailers or visit our online store here.

Haha. Can't tell if being troll or just slightly young/naive to understand why other people in other parts of the world use credit cards.

Believe it or not, PayPal (a US-based company/service), offers significantly less protection than a credit card transaction in many parts of the world. I can't imagine its that much different in the Netherlands.

@NeatSquidYT simply meant that using a credit card helps you establish credit in the UK - much like the US.

  • Having/building credit affords you option later in life such as motgages, car loan, business loan, etc.
  • In the US, paying things with credit cards will more often than not offer more protection than PayPal as you're being protected by certain laws - whereas PayPal themselves, while buyer-friendly, protects you only to the limit of their policy/grace.
  • A credit card issued by VISA/MasterCard et al. also offers their own respective protection against fraud, allowing customers to chargeback if goods are not delivered as promised.
  • Most credit cards also carry reward/bonus structure to them when using. If I spend $1,000 on my credit card buying stuff, I can get myself a nice $10-$20 gift card. Spending the same $1,000 through PayPal gets me jack squat.

This is why G2A charges additional fees when you use a credit card. They pass the merchant processing cost onto the customer, and partly to dissuade people from using credit cards on their site and simply use PayPal or other 3rd party, non-banking, stronger-regulated payment processors.

Its pretty certain that on these CD key resell sites, chargebacks/refunds/cancel orders happen on a significantly higher % for transactions done with a credit card vs. online payment comps like PayPal etc., so naturally they'll want you to use the thing that cost them the less money.

Side note: this isn't to say credit cards are all sunshine and roses, as they have their own negatives too. But for others wondering, this is whats up.

We pay here everything with IDeal (online live bankingtransactions). Credit cards only encourage people getting into debts. I would rather contact my bank than Paypal, because Paypal can choose the side of the seller, where as the bank is neutral as it doesn't receive any payment-tax when buying stuff.

Even Steam has a IDeal option, even if it's not a Dutch company. And the big Chinese webshops also have a Ideal option. So in the end, i don't use PayPal a lot, only when buying things on the Play Store.

My bank/debit card also works everywhere in the world with Maestro, without any extra charges. I have used it in the US without a problem. And yeah we get interest points when you have money on your savings account, most of those deals are kinda rubish, even when you get a 50% discount. The best thing I have bought there was a 4 month unlimited cinema-card for just 38€.

I don't understand "fraudulent keys". Bethseda made and sold those "keys" to resellers, it's not like somebody made a keygen to make fake keys.

Bethesda made the claim that those "fraudulent keys" were sold from people doing credit card fraud. Where they get the keys with stolen or invalid cards, or through charge back. They then sell these keys on reseller sites. I would say i just had terrible luck and ended up with these keys, but apparently i was not the only one.

https://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/36womu/deactivation_of_fraudulently_obtained_esotu_game/

Just CTRL+F and type "G2A". Plenty of people had the same issue as me when using G2A.

http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/matthew-wilson/bethesda-is-deactivating-eso-accounts-due-to-fraudulent-keys/

KitGuru Says: I have been trying to warn readers against grey market sellers for a while now. On the one hand, part of being a smart consumer is shopping around for a good deal, unfortunately, when buying from a marketplace like G2A or Kinguin, there is no system in place to ensure that the key is legitimate. While you might be able to activate the key, you won’t know where it originated and it seems that buying in bulk with stolen payment details or nabbing codes out of retail boxes is a fairly common practice.

Let us know if any of you were affected by the ESO key deactivation’s. It does seem like an odd move from Bethesda considering the game’s waning popularity.

This is why i say it is best to avoid G2A when it comes to things like MMO's, where the games are a time-sink. It sucks putting effort into something just to be banned afterwards. Again, it is luck of the draw, as it depends entirely on where people who sold the keys on G2A got them, and how they were purchased, however, risk is still involved.

To claim wholeheartedly that G2A is legit might not be the best claim to make. It is a grey area. They can be bad or good. For most games, G2A will take care of you and refund, or replace the key with what they say is a valid key. For MMO's, you can't keep taking risks with invalid keys. You might end up with a permanent account ban.

thumbs up for ING Bank.

my favorite internet bank in the US until they unfortunately got bought out by Capital One (yep a credit card company). Was quite sad.

anyways my point was that in other western countries we're a lot more credit dependent / socially normal - which is probably not a good thing. heh

nice list of approval / authorized retailer there. wish more publishers make it clear so for those that want it, they know where to get them from.

also back on topic of sort..

this Origin sale is meh/crap. only good thing in it is 50% off DAI, a game that should be hitting 66% off soon.
