GTX 980 ti owners are currently unable to reserve a windows 10 upgrade

pixeldensity

If you wanted to upgrade before reserving a Windows 10 Upgrade, you might want to reconsider. Apparently, GeForce GTX 980 Ti owners are not able to reserve a copy of Microsoft’s latest operating system because the company seems to believe the OS ‘won’t work’ with NVIDIA’s latest graphics card.

The funny situation was reported by PCWorld, where they tried to reserve an upgrade with a rig featuring the GTX 980 Ti, but found out they couldn’t. Digging deeper, they found out from their Check your PC option that the graphics card was deemed to be not compatible with Windows 10, which is quite awkward due to the fact that the 980 Ti is one of the cards that supports DirectX 12.1 and has support for the OS with NVIDIA’s 353.30 driver.

It seems that Microsoft has not updated its compatibility database and an NVIDIA employee apparently told through a tweet that 980 Ti owners would have a great experience with the card and Microsoft’s Windows 10.

So apparently, as the title and the quote says, 980ti owners currently will not be able to reserve a upgrade to win 10 because microsoft has not provided capability between the 980ti and their database. I'm sure this will work itself out pretty soon, so there should be little to worry about for 980ti users as these types of issue usually get solved pretty fast after it has been discovered.

This is old news. However, I bet if you want to reserve, you can simply take out your gpu and use a dedicated or a different gpu to reserve. (someone try this)

You have the option to upgrade for free up to a year after release, it is not limited to preorders.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

#GetRekt, GTX 970 here and still able to reserve Windows 10 upgrade, you probably have to talk to NVIDIA about this current issue. I doubt someone in the NVIDIA forum is already post this current issue.

I thought this was going to be a troll thread, I laughed so hard when I saw this was actually a thing lol.

Anyways, who was the person telling me that compatibility wasn't going to be an issue with Windows 10? We had a long debate on this, but I think this means that "I win" since there are compatibility problems even before its released(and don't act like this is just a "beta thing", we are nearing release).

Good thing I reserved a copy before buying a 980ti. Probably just a weird bug that Microsoft needs to fix.

Saw that on twitter. Pretty funny, but makes no difference. You can still reserve and you can probably force install too. Should work once the drivers are properly out anyways.

Its pretty much the same with all tech. If you're looking to discuss bigger problems, this probably isn't the forum for you.
