Associated Press adds 1 million minutes of footage to YouTube

"The Associated Press and British Movietone, one of the world's most comprehensive newsreel archives, are together bringing more than 1 million minutes of digitized film footage to YouTube.[...]The YouTube channels will include more than 550,000 video stories dating from 1895 to the present day. For example, viewers can see video from the San Francisco earthquake in 1906, exclusive footage of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, Marilyn Monroe captured on film in London in the 1950s and Twiggy modeling the fashions of the 1960s."

I think it's very cool to have access to such a gigantic archive for free and easy accessible through YouTube.

I wonder when youtube will put a halt to this kind of thing. The amount of HDD space this requires must be insane and YT is already stupidly large. I wonder when they'll stop anyone except certain people from uploading or when they'll start to charge money. 

Don't get me wrong, I think that the uploading of all this footage to YT is great, but I don't think Google thinks so HDD space wise

These videos are only 360p and one million minutes*0.5mbit/s are only 30TB

I wonder every day how big Youtube is in PB...

Approximately 76PB of data is uploaded annually. It was founded in 2005 so 10 years ago... So 760PB so far but uploading was less back then as Internet speed was slower. I say there's approximately 678.5PB of data stored so far; taking into account the average anual increase of Internet speed of these past 10 years.
