Shenmue 3 is now the most funded videogame Kickstarter

On June 11th, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night became the most funded videogame Kickstarter, but has now been beat by Shenmue 3 with a current total of around 5,7 million dollars with 8 hours left on the Kickstarter.


Shenmue 3 was first revealed at the Sony E3 Press Conference and reached its goal of two million in under nine hours.


If you want to donate there's a couple of hours left, and a whole bunch of perks.


 



The original funding goal for the game was $2 million, and while the campaign has proven successful, questions have arisen as to whether such an ambitious game could be made on such a relatively small budget. According to creator Yu Suzuki, in addition to Kickstarter, the game is receiving funding from Sony and other investors.



 


It's dated for release sometime in 2017 for PS4 and PC.

What about that game that has a little amount of money....I think it's called Star Citizen?

Seriously though....85 million > 5.7 million

While not the biggest name, Shenmue has a large cult following, and the original games are some of the most beloved to be released on the Dreamcast (the second also launched on the original Xbox, as well). The series is especially notable for its early attempts at presenting a large, 3D open world for players explore.

StarCitizen is the biggest crowd funded game, but it didn't get that much from KickStarter. Shenmue is the biggest crowd funded game from Kickstarter. I was writing about the same thing, until I realised SC 'only' funded with $2.7m when it ended on Kickstarter. From there it went on on it's own and now they're at $85m.

I had always hoped we would eventually get a third installment. The way you experienced the game, the story, and the characters and interaction made this like the ultimate interactive novel. And so much stuff was hidden off in corners or under special circumstances few if any got to experience the whole games.

Honestly, Street Legal Racing: Evolution should become the most funded kickstarter videogame. its predecessor was a big hit 2003, and it needs a successor to keep people interested.

What about that game that has a little amount of money....I think it's called Star Citizen?

Seriously though....85 million > 5.7 million

in fairness though, only 2.1 of that 85 was from KS. but yeah, everytime I hear about "most funded" I giggle a bit.
