AMD FX vs Intel for gaming - 2015 Edition

The i5 is cheaper than the FX Octa series. You can get a 4460 with a cheap mobo and stock cooler for less than the price of an 8320 with an expensive motherboard to make sure your house doesn't burn down, a Hyper 212 evo and potentially a more expensive PSU....

 

You admitted that the i5 performs better. If it's cheaper then on what realm does it make sense to buy something more expensive that is worse that is strictly for a practical task?

why are you comparing an fx 8000 series cpu to an i7 for gaming when the i3 is what you should be comparing it to for gaming

they got no money what do you expect they are trying to save them selves so they have been making decent choices on both the gpu and cpu side but we gotta hope that zen is not a fail

they do use CPU but honestly AMD is just a amazing value if you have the money for an i5 have at it but why do that when you can get an A10 or a Fx 8000 there shouldn't be any bottlenecking with the fx 8 core its just a i5 hyper threading is best rendering somthing or Zbrush or autodesk maya

the 4xxx, 6xxx, and 8xxx all use the same core so if the i3 beats one it beats all three, the only difference between them is the clockspeed if one is a higher clock it will perform better then the others

yeah but its only like 15%-20% improvement over all three gens combined so it shouldn't be that hard to raise it by 20%-25%

intel wont be raising the performance of the cpus at all until amd is back up or they are bought, if amd dies and they have no competition they will be considered a monopoly so they will be forced to split up and intel doesn't want that to happen and they dont want somebody like google or apple or another company with lots of money to buy amd so they will do there best to keep amd alive

I think by now this discussion is pointless, of course FX CPUs will be at the level of sandy bridge because that's how old they are, the 9590 is a cherry picked 8350 overclocked to hell, that's not product development. I think everyone should forget about AMD until they release Zen, if you already got it, same, wait for Zen. I am not an Intel fanboy, i am simply aware that AMD has too little money on research and haven't made something new in 5 years. Of course i am refering to the FX line up since that's the 'high end'. For a budget oriented build AMD can be a good option. But once we are talking about i5s and above, the simple truth is that there is no competition, in practice, the high end belongs to Intel, and of fucking course i want AMD to kick ass with Zen and kill the current monopoly, but we don't owe anything to any brand, so until that happens, i'm sticking to the facts. FX is not a good option, it's old, it's NOT cheap, and the current flagship CPU AMD offers is...a pile of steaming dogshit, so, hopefully we can have this conversation when Zen is out and it won't be completely obvious to recomend Intel for 150$+ CPUs.

SOME games use more than 4 threads, I saw benchmarks where the i5 4460 was either beating the fx 8350 by some few frames or it was the same, there might be one game or so where the i3 performs as well as t he fx 8350; i5 4460 vs fx 8350 vs 9590:

But they have huge influence on game market and could easily force game devs to optimize for the cards and equal the playing field!

 

Maybe even make AMD fix their god awful POS drivers for Linux and then they get Steam Machine market!

there very few games that use more then 4 cores and most of them do it very bad if you are going to say that the i3 then you have to wait for a lot of games to use more then 4 cores well
