Do people actualy keep their PC clean?

No, I don't keep it spotless. I don't give a crap about a fine layer of dust on components that don't give off enough heat for me to worry about. However CPU/GPU heatsinks, filters, fans, etc are all cleaned every once in a while. Basically I take a purely functional viewpoint when it comes to cleanliness. I don't care about the aesthetics of it, but a clean system runs cooler.

I clean the fan filters every week, since that eliminates most of the dust. Every month I clean out the interior, GPU fans, CPU fan, PSU fan, etc with some compressed air.

I clean the dust when it starts to build up, but as my computer is on my desk and has multiple dust filters I dont have to clean it very often.

Well, the entire case gets a clean every few days (pain in the ass to keep clean) and all fan filters get a quick wipe down every couple of days. So, it never really gets a chance to become dirty. I have slight OCD when it comes to the cleanliness and tidiness of tech.

My X3 cpu is over-clocked 15% and the stock cooler has not been cleaned since 2008. Franky the more dirt that accumulates makes the AMD stock cooler a little quieter. The accumulated dirt and filth muffle the whine. I have 286's and an 8086 that still boot and run fine. I told my wife the extra heat kills most computer viruses so we dont really need AV software. When you have been married for 20 years, and you want to build yourself a new computer, your an idiot if you take care of the POS you have. You people are nuts.:)

I take my PC out to my garage and use my air compressor every three weeks or so. I just unclip my Hyper 212 fans and blow out the heatsink as well. I also take the front off of my case, and access the dust filter there. All-in-all, it takes me about 15-20 minutes.

I hardly ever have to clean my rig or work PC. Work PC is on top of my rig, and my rig has pretty damn good filters in it.

EDIT: Keep in mind my room is carpet, and he have a cat (although he hardly sheds).

I do a spring clean and a pre-winter clean every year.  So roughly every six months or so.

Not long ago, in a galaxy relatively nearby...

I generally do a fresh install of OSes once a year. I probably clean off old thermal paste more often than needed, once a year. I live in a desert and it is quite dusty, so around once every 1-2 months. I also keep spare fans for my gaming laptop and desktops, as I don't want to be without if a fan dies.

Almost none of my clients dust out their machines, so I am doing that on a near daily basis. The worst PCs belong to indoor smokers...

I'm doing pretty well, just using filtered intakes and keeping positive pressure on my Define R4.

I've been cleaning the dust filters out every month or so and I've been fine so far, barely any dust in my system.

Sig under construction.

As a loyal subscriber of Linus that I see my self as, I've been wondering for a while now about whether people keep their PCs as clean as they appear in some of LTTs videos, I see that Linus will likely give whatever is staring in the show a good dust up before it appears but it seems when ever I see a computer anywhere it has far less dust in it than mine, don't get me wrong I do blow the dust out from time to time but I never really take it apart and dust things down.

To wrap things up I want to know if leaving my main computer to collect its dust like this will be a bad thing or should I actually start to do something about it?

A while back there was a discussion about what to use to clean a computer. It ended up that the easiest and most cost effective solution on the long run was a data-vac.

You could always use an air compressor as well if you or someone you know owns one.

At least once every month or less, I prefer it if my computer is looking fresh. Deep cleaning is every 3-4months.  Everything does depend on how often i keep it on.

I barely clean my system, however my house gets vacuumed every second day, as I'm allergic to the dusty mite. i haven't cleaned my PC in over a year but its near dust free. if any dust gets in my system its gets stuck to my top rad, which is very very is to clean (paint brush and a pc of paper to catch it) (my fans are in pull as its tons easier to clean)
