Ok, so currently i am about halfway through a build where i will be putting a R9 295 X2 in a HAF 915F case. I will be placing the 295 X2 on a Mini ITX board. I have the entire build figured out so far... but i had a crazy idea. Would it be possible to put two R9 295 X2 cards in that small form factor?

The first thing i run into is CPU. currently i will be using a Pentium G3258 for the build, but i don't think that it will have enough power to run both cards. I will most likely be upgrading the CPU to a i3 4150. the second problem that I will run into is RAM. I will be upgrading the RAM from the 4GB up to 8 just to be safe. Cooling both cards shouldn't be an issue as both cards are water cooled, and there should be ample space to mount both radiators. If cooling becomes an issue, i should be able to combine the loops of both cards into a bigger loop with a bigger radiator, but i don't foresee that as being an issue. Now the PSU will also be a hard It will be very hard to find a PSU that will fit in the case and still have the capability to provide enough power to all the GPUs.

The biggest issue that we run into the is the availability of PCIe slots. so that is why i come to you today. Would there be any crazy way to get some kind of splitter and mount the first card in the intended location  and the second card, laying on its back, the fan facing up. It is my understanding that you do not require a full 16x slot for folding. So i don't know if there is any way to use a splitter, but if there is, i kind of want to see if a build like this could be possible. Anyone got any idea if a splitter like this could be possible? Anyone have any ideas for this crazy build? @Whaler_99 you got any ideas?

Why are you putting a 295x2 in there in the first place?

Also Mini-ITX is only designed for up to a dual-slot card (which the 295x2 is already), so you'd need to go at least mATX and then be lucky enough to find rad mounts.

Sig under construction.

I don't know if bottlenecks happen in Folding and such, but the Pentium or the i3 might bottleneck 2 295x2s... But don't quote me on this

Actually that is the awsomeness of the HAF 915 it has mounts for a total of dual 360mm Radiators, so rad mounts wont be a issue. As for the dual slot cards, that what im asking. would it be possible for me to get a splitter. i know people have used splitters for things like mining, and i was wondering if somthing like that would be possible to do for folding.

I was informed that a Pentium would be able to handle the 295 X2 by multiple people, but im not sure honestly. @Whaler_99 do you know what would be the cheapest CPU to buy to be able to run a 295 X2? what if i wanted to run dual 295 X2s?

Also, if you want small form factor with quad GPU (two physical ones) you can only go with mATX since ITX only supports 1 physical GPU. Unless you use those PCI risers and splitter and what not ;)

That would be the idea, i would be using either a riser card or splitter to make somthing like this happen. it would be a crazy build for sure

the HAF 915F will have enough physical space to fit the cards, but heat may become an issue, the cards themselves will fit, but its gonna be tight

I expect somewhere in the realm of a steady 450,000 per day on a single 295 X2

I want to use the 915F for a couple of reasons. for one, the challenge of fitting 2 in the small case is part of the fun. and for two, its so i can place it on top of my gaming rig, that is in a HAF 935 case.

what do you mean? i just hope whaler has some insite,  i think this build could be fun. its not worth it, and is probly stupid, but i wanna see if it could be possible

IMHO, G3258 should be just enough to feed 2x R9 295X

yes there are pcie splitter available, but then you'll need to mount your 2 GPU elsewhere  :)

yeah i think everything with the CPU should go okay, but i upgraded it to an i3 4150 just to be safe.

in theory you could make this work, idk about in practice though

500x1000px-LL-89db5ab6_7dfa8c70_mini-itxYou'd need a Mini-DTX board which is slightly longer than Mini-ITX.
