What do you think about anonymous?

CJPowell27

Hey guys I just wanted to see what others thought about the anonymous hacker group.  They are known for hacking government websites and they claimed they were behind the big psn hack.  So yea post what you think about how they are approaching what they want the government to change.

I have to contradict this and say hacking the CIA and other associates of the government getting the ips of the megaupload users back from the CIA deploying internet to egypt when it was shut down the hacking part has done some major things but its not about the hacking always. They hacked PSN because Sony was involved in the whole SOPA CISPA and PIPA ordeal.

Saying you have done something and actually doing something is two very different things. However Anonymous has no structure, and is not to be understood as a closed group, and therefore cannot be held accountable for "hacks" as a group. Anonymous is a symbol, an idea of a free world that's not suppressed by government entities. Kids have sadly completely misunderstood this and go around the schoolyard bragging about how they are 1337 anonymous h4x0rs. The Anonymous name sadly is not what it used to be because of this, so I have lost every bit of interest in the movement. The idea however I have not forgotten. But I guess I'm too oldschool and boring, actually fighting for something instead of just causing random chaos for fun.

also for anybody wanting to get a clear view of anonymous I recommend watching a documentary called how hackers changed the world this has a lot of information regarding anonymous and any other hacking group and how they formed etc it does not support them only explains the whole situation in detail

I don't understand, if they "take down" government websites, why can't they arrest them or something?

They've DDOS'd a lot of people.

I also remember them destroying one security software company after they were threatened by them. I think that was following the megaupload protests.

They do in some cases but Anonymous itself is really a collective of everyone thats fighting for freedom in some way most of them are normal people they do nothing wrong its only a very select few that decide to act on it by hacking.

Even if SONY was involved with the PIPA / SOPA stuff (which obviously they were), hitting PSN was in no way what so ever "not wrong". That hurt the consumers and the consumers alone. Yes SONY's pride took a hit, but the consumers (who the so called Anonymous are supposed to defend) were the ones who really suffered from this.

I think you mean LulzSec / Lulz Security? They were never considered a branch of Anonymous however they did have a joint ops with them (see #AntiSec). They were a bit reckless but in my opinion they did some pretty fun "hacks". One of them revealing the user database of a pornsite, which showed several members registered with .gov emails. :D

if you watch the documentary I talked about it tells you about the anonymous members who split and formed LulzSec.

They are anonymous.

Life is pain. Anyone who says any different is either selling something or the government.

Anonymous are in my opinion a good thing what they do is and does change the world.

And they are not out to scare people at all they are here to help the people to fight for humanity and against corruption.

LuLzSec was a group of hackers and were never considered to be part of anonymous.

Also the reason they cant be arrested is because they remain anonymous...using VPNs and creating a whole new identity to try and not be caught.

Edit: Also the whole PSN thing they apologized for because they did not intend to hurt the customers in any way. Also they did the OpSony because Sony were going to send GeoHot to prison for "jailbraking" the PS3, which is kind of a joke seeing as when you buy a piece something you should be able to do what ever you want with it. It was Sonys fault that they made it so easy to hack.

I think you should take a bit lightly on a documentary made for the public eye, but it is of course very possible and likely as Anonymous is this open movement. You cannot treat Anonymous as a group though, it's so open it's become kind of individual again, especially because a lot of people use the name in a context that is not in following with "the idea".

I think its cool that they are trying to do something. The actual impact they have is debatable.
