Adding more RAM will increase an SSDs lifespan

TopWargamer

I guess I should also upgrade my 16gb to 32gb.

In all seriousness though, I think this now gives me a valid excuse to buy 16 more gigs (for a total of 32, because, why not?)

why not? because RAM is a bit expensive right now :P

cool find man!

OR you can just disable caching to your SSD, you might get a performance hit but a decent amount of ram should fix the problem.

This is pointless.  Unless you run a heavy server it's basically impossible to max out an MLC drive's endurance in the first place.  SSDs can withstand hundreds of terabytes of writes, even over 1000 terabytes for larger capacity drives.

SSD's have a specific amount or reads and writes until they fail. If you lengthen this time I would be happy but I don't think it matters as SSD's last a long time already.

nice find.. I wonder what the improvment would be from 8GB to 16GB.. or another higher amount?.. Just might have to add another 8GB when my ram is on sale(if ever) lol

Guys you could just turn off your page file and have a even better effect, also with increased system responsiveness.

Notice what applications they were running during their tests. For those of us who just use our machines for gaming, Web browsing, watching videos, and listening to music, over 8GB remains nothing more than a great way to burn money for zero performance gain.

Although it doesn't really affect me, Its pretty cool to know. Now they just need to make the socketed stackable ram that they were talking about a year ago :)

Did you bother to read the article?

It says it improves lifespan of SSD's by reducing the write cycles to the SSD.

Is because less is written to the page file.

Mine is disabled. Some people seem to have a fit when I say that. It's not caused me any problems.

Id say your better off disabling it I you have enough ram and if you dont, leave it on the ssd youll have much better preformance. It not like ssds have that short of a lifespan, especially when used as a OS drive its mostly reads not writes by any means.

I think SSD will get faster, cheaper, larger (capacity), More reliable faster than my ssd failing. So I'm not worry about this.

I only have 8G of ram and I rarely run more than one program at a time, If the page file is being used I don't notice it.
