Adding more RAM will increase an SSDs lifespan

TopWargamer

Ram Prices actually keep on getting more expensive in my country is one of the reason I'm not getting more ram. Does this also happens in other country?

Did you bother to read the article?

It says it improves lifespan of SSD's by reducing the write cycles to the SSD.

that would only happen if u take up the whole ram and have page files enabled

everyone who has an SSD knows that it should be turned off

OR you can just disable caching to your SSD, you might get a performance hit but a decent amount of ram should fix the problem.

I did this the day i got my SSD

I just moved the page file to my hdd. and let windows manage it there

This too

Intel 4770k@4.6GHz, ASUS ROG Maximus VI Hero, Kingston HyperX Beast 2x8GB 2400MHz CL11, Gigabyte GTX 1070 Gaming, Kingston HyperX 3k 240GB - RAID0 (2x120Gb), 2xWD 1TB (Blue and Green), Corsair H100i, Corsair AX860, CoolerMaster HAF X, ASUS STRIX Tactic pro, Logitech G400S, HyperX Cloud II, Logitech X530, Acer Predator X34.

Based off of two data points. They even didn't test what a lot of people have, 8 gigs.

In terms of science projects this is a C-

Guys you could just turn off your page file and have a even better effect, also with increased system responsiveness.

I would keep around 1GB for crash dumps. Windows tends to show weird behavior in case of bluescreens without a pagefile, atleast sometimes.

apparently downloading more ram reduces the life of your entire pc ... it basically dies right after downloading

(1) high frame rate (2) ultra graphics settings (3) cheap...>> choose only two<<...

if it's never been done then i'm probably tryna do it. (((((((Bass so low it HERTZ)))))))

Not to brag... I've got 64GB..

currently while surfing, i use 3.1GB..

I'm thinking about selling 4* 8GB..

however making a ramdisk is also cool.. but still its volatile so reboot and data is gone...

It says it improves lifespan of SSD's by reducing the write cycles to the SSD.

And you only get the write cycles to the SSD when you run out of RAM. I've had two WoW clients, Diablo 3, Firefox, radio streaming and various other applications and never had more than 4-5 GB in use. If all you do is play games, you will never need to page to storage if you have 8 GB of RAM or more, making the article irrelevant.

The ram in use by programs isn't the only thing you need to account. Windows actually does a decent job with caching.

Havent I havnt ever had a problem with full disabling the page file except when I run out of ram which is usually my fault more than anything.

Wrong windows does write much more to the page file when you run out of ram but even when you have plenty to spare it still uses it for stuff it deems non priority or as a background application. This is why is you have enough ram is best to just disable it for best responsiveness.

Well it needs some pagefile for kernel dumps when a crash occurs. (I think)

who needs dumps? :P and it can still do a small dump some how. O and in the early days of the SSD and netbooks it was quite common to disable sometimes with only 2gb of ram in the case of the netbooks. This is because you cant do anywhere near enough on netbook to use it up unless you try really. Note: This was also back when most netbooks ran WinXP.

I watch a lot of Youtube 1080p videos. Does anyone know whether the video is buffered into memory or local ssd cache? Google Chrome is my browser.

what does touche mean

Touché Touché (French pronunciation: [tu'ʃe]): the French word for "touched" is used to acknowledge a hit, called out by the fencer who is hit. Conversely, if a fencer concedes a hit when no hit was actually made, the fencer's adversary would say, "'pas de touche'" (French pronunciation: [pɑ də tuʃ]; English: no touch) to indicate that the hit should not be counted.[5]

Don't really care this since because I am not a heavy user on the SSD. Just place all my big files on my HDD. :)

So I guess I can make this excuse now when people ask why I have 64 gigs of RAM.

64gb? Na that's still overkill, if you have a ram disk that would be pretty sweet though. That's the excuse I use for my 32gbs anyway.

*EDIT* after noticing your listed set up, that was referring to if and/or when you install 64gb of ram. I guess I'm the guilty one in those regards.

7.3GB

almost no page-ing as you can see.

OS is the win8.1 developer preview

Oh I also made a ramdisk, thats fast..

but still its volatile memory so if the power goes off ... bye bye data

Time to get 256GB of ECC Memory, and then find a OS that supports all of. Why Linux must you be so terrifying.
