Oh I also made a ramdisk, thats fast..

but still its volatile memory so if the power goes off ... bye bye data

Get Primo Ramdisk Ultimate Edition. If you have 64 GB Of memory, you should really consider buying this piece of software. I have 14 GB (8GB+4GB+2GB) and made a 2GB ramdisk (Local Disk A) wich i use as a cache for Chrome, Firefox and al windows temp folders using dirlinker. Primo Ramdisk has a nice feature wich I can make an image of the that disk, update and/or replace it automatically (once in a minute at least). The update process is so smooth that there is no performance impact whatsoever. The power is off= the ramdisk is backed up a minute ago. However, a large filled ramdisk makes windows startups a lot slower, especially if the disk image is placed on a HDD and not SSD. (The time it takes to copy the content of that disk image to the actual disk.) Now I get 4-5 GB writes per day on the SSD from 30GB when not using the ramdisk, that with the image placed on the SSD for fast startups! Hope it helps.

Why would you want to make a ramdisk if windows is caching everything it touches anyway?

Why would you want to make a ramdisk if windows is caching everything it touches anyway?

What I have seen is that chrome's Youtube cache is localy stored, that's why i got like 30-40Gb writes every day. God forbid making 4K mainstream!

I'm not gonna pay anything for tools/software for a ramdisk.

Ramdisk from SoftPerfect is free and worked fine.

I have made a 50GB disk (so i had 14 left for my OS and stuff).. see benchmark below..

I have 16GB and an Intel 520 180?GB. Assuming Tomshardware, not sure if paid review to boost memory sales or if actually true. I hardly read any of it though if you want to verify my credibility.

@OP yea but they were testing 4 gig to 16 gig. Like me, you seem to have 16 gig, is there any evidence that there is an improvement between 16 and 32? Cause I can see why 4 to 16 gig makes a difference with virtual memory and all that but 16-32???

Turned all my disk cache in FF off :)

I have 9.5GB Cached now.. it increases :)

 

Btw: About the ssd lifespan, i'm not worried I got the Samsung 840 Pro .. not the regular (non-Pro) one with TLC memory which should have worse lifespan .
