i think you got this backwards. i have neveer seen a laptop with switchable cpu, but i have seen lappies with switchable gpus(alienware lappies(at least the new ones) are some laptop that can do this)

its doable on my laptop (its a buisness class hp)

My friend opened up his computer and wiped of the thermal paste, He then screwed up with the fan settings. His Processor and GTX 780 then overheated and he got angry. They luckily still worked after we took them out and put them aside though. WHY? WHY TAKE OFF THE PASTE?

I only ever chill on this page: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/34813-experiences-with-non-techies/

I need to stay away from this thread, It causes me severe depression and makes me want to crawl into a corner and die.

..and then everyone else recommendations come up with..
a i5 4670k (guy wants to video render as well so the 8320 would be better),
stock cooler
a 120gb ssd (120gb ssds tend to half the write speeds and a 250gb gives you double the space for not much more cash)
a 1tb drive (the fuck? why buy a 1tb for £50 when you can get 3x the storage for £80?),
a gtx 760 (an overpriced 670? you're joking right?),
a coolermaster 750w powersupply or worse a "e-z cool 450w" never-heard of brand
and a coolermaster haf 912....which wasnt that bad.... 4 years ago!

OR they recommend an fx8150 with some cheap msi/asus 760g chipset 4+1 power phase board  :o
I've done like 6 this month (and before that), I'm thinking about retiring and just letting people work it out for themselfs.

I went into officeworks, looking for a basic desktop mic, nothing special I just wanted to see what they had.  I couldn't find any so I asked the guy,  he replied no we out of stock.

He asked if I would want a headset, to which I replied "no they're crap and I only need a mic" he said I could put the headset on the desk with the mic pointing up.

I said that would not be the best because most headsets have a unidirectional mic and then he cut me off telling me that unidirectional meant from everywhere

I said "uni means single and directional means... well directional as in one direction"  his response: "oh yeah I meant uni axial, that means from everywhere" :o

I said "no, omni directional means from everywhere and a headset mic will not work"  so he suggested a $5 headset from their discount bin

most board with a 4+1 are bargain basement items which are fine for something like an athlon x2/3/4 or even a phenom of an fx4300 and at a stretch a 6300...but the power draw on an 8350 (let alone a bulldozer equivilant) will really push the board to its limit and thats without overclocking, I overclocked my friends athlon 640(3ghz) to 3.5ghz (14x250) yesterday with 1.45v and the vrms we're throttling it, i put the voltage down to 1.4 and its fine but these boards are very sensitive to socket power draw.

its not the be-all and end-all and is slightly flexible but for a quad core and udner you want a heatsink'd 4+1 (or better), for a 6 core you want a 6+2 or better and for an fx8 of any sort i wouldn't use anything less than an 8+2... if your not overclocking sure you might get by with a 6+2 but is it worth taking the risk of frying a £110-150 processor just to save £20 on a board AND possibly lose out on other features a hgiher end chipset would have?

Well, this one actually happened to myself few weeks back when I got a new headset. I just couldn't get my mic to work, I tried to install newest drivers, I tried to disable the device and re-enable, download all the latest software and stuff. I read from all over the internet and every site was telling to check if the mic was on, I kinda laughed and thought in my head that I'm not that stupid. Then when I decide that I quit, I can't get this thing to work, I put the headset on my desk and I realize the voice control buttons on the cord, with an on off switch next to them, it was off...

You must have had the biggest facepalm of your life.

Depends on how accurate the temperature sensors are.

Pretty dead on. Giving the margin of error, I'd say they're only 1-5F below actual, using my friend's temperature sensor (that one Linus uses. You know what I'm talking about).

umm ps3 does have full hd with games that support it and it is true that you need an hdmi cable to be able to take advantage of it. on a side note, my cousin just got a xbox 360 and hooked it up to his tv using that horrible three-rca connector(yellow for video and red and white for audio, i cant remember what the standard is called.) and i was like dude, the graphics are horrible. for the sake of your blind dog, just get an hdmi cable to make the graphics better(they did have an hdtv) and his dad walks up and is all like"i dont know what u talkin about. it has the best graphics ever. why should i buy an hdmi cable?

woah woah waoh wait up. the AV cables on the Xbox support whatever level of HD the thing plays. I bought a used xbox which turned out to be one of those original 20gb versions which only has AV and it plays HD videos just fine. At launch HDMI was not supported but in later revisions it was added on. Maybe your cousins video settings weren't configured correctly.

umm no. the composite triple rca connector cable(1 wire for video, 2 for audio) can support 480i(dvd quality except interlaced) at best. Component on the other hand(which electronically is exactly the same as a vga cable, 5 wires in total, 3 for video, 2 for audio) can support full 1080p video. although you can watch 1080p videos over composite av cables, it will be downscaled to 480i.

idk for sure, but the cable was called the component hd av cable like this: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Component-HD-AV-Cable/dp/B000B6MLPU

and i think it ran at 1080p (it looks like it on our tv)

the top three wires are for component video(vga, ful hd) the middle two are for standard audio(audio is the same for component and composite), and the last yellow wire is for composite low res video. those cables don't work with xbox 360 slims(like his one). the cable they give you now is just a plain old composite cable(just the audio connectors and the yellow composite connector). the reason for this is because they figure if you wanna use hd with it, you should just buy a hdmi cable(the original xbox you have does not have hdmi, hence the component/composite cable)

Some nincompoop at Matrix Warehouse(a pc shop here in South Africa) saying that an AMD FX-6300 beats an Intel i7 3770k just because it has 2 more cores. And yes, he worked there.

your profile picture is awesome and creepy at the same time.

Component cables can output 1080i. Not 1080p.
