How do prebuilt manufacturers do this?

Go to solution Solved by Misanthrope,

It's called preloading, you will need to do some preparation on the hdd:

So, I have a question. Whenever you get a new desktop or laptop PC from, say, Lenovo, they have it immediately go into the setup for Windows. How does one go about doing that if they want to sell their PC with the setup for Windows running when they recieve it in the mail and open it up?

Basically, you open your shiny new laptop and you set up Windows. How can I set up a PC I am getting rid of to do the same thing when the new user boots it up?

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

Never installed an OEM system's copy of Windows in this way so I am just asking....

Also, I'm the professional re-re-reinstaller BTW :P

I just thought of a more inelegant solution but you gotta love the ghetto factor:

You can basically get a very tiny usb drive permanently connected to one of the USB 2.0 headers inside the mobo and set the boot order to hdd first then USB. Because there's nothing on the hdd the first boot will go to that usb then afterwards it will go to the hdd normally and he will have a permanent "back up" drive in there.

Bonus points if you can cable manage it to keep it hidden
