Looks like I'll be climbing a mountain again in January (2922 meters/9,586 ft above sea level) with some meteorologist suggesting temperatures could drop as low as 0'C/32'F. I need new mountaineering clothing that is thicker. I hope I don't freeze to death and die.

 

How do Canadians survive that cold ass weather that is below 32'F?

Well its -16 right now and -25 with a windchill. Wear warm clothes and be out in it enough and you'll get used to it

Rural Canada Is amazingly beautiful. Especially the Shield.  If you ever get a chance, travel from south central Manitoba up to Ontario through the Whiteshell towards Thunder Bay. The difference in just this area is huge!

There are lakes with floatplanes all over the place lol. The sport fishing and wilderness lodge industry is huge here. Many places floatplanes are the only way to get in. One of the people who owns a cablin near our owns one and that's how he gets to it.

Yep. So many places you can't access by vehicle. Manitoba alone is known as the land of 100 000 lakes.  I'd say 10% if not slightly more are accessable by road

Looking at it in Google Maps, building roads to those lakes must be difficult. I wonder if the people living in those lakes have their own floatplanes.

Yep The main problem is once you get about halfway up the province, much of the ground turns to permafrost. It thaws and melts as the weather changes with the deeper parts staying frozen all year around. Can't build roads on that crap. They did build a railway straight up to Churchill but its closed right now from flooding and even when it was open the train had to go real slow to prevent derailment as the track was not that straight

It feels like 35F here and I have to work outside for some of the hours. My hands are like ice and I work until midnight. Granted, I'm used to constant 80F. Doesn't help that the air is also dry...makes my sinuses act up.

Not here. Not when it's average 80F in all seasons. Even in late November it was hitting 95F. This change in temperature to your SoCal native is like a falcon punch in the face with ice.

Well actually I expect like Winnipeg to be colder, which a quick Google search confirms that.

 

Another reason I can hardly wait to be down in Alabama. Summers are roughly the same, maybe a little more hot and possibly more humid(?). Winters down there are nicer though. Little to no snow, generally not below 0F

Well rather, it's not as cold in Northern Alabama. But the snow that they do get generally doesn't stay.

 

I imagine all you'd need to get through the winter down there is a little bit of ice melt, a snow shovel would be optional at best. Ice scrapers, you'd still probably need for your cars.

 

But I can bet you, that you're not gonna see people with these on their trucks during the winter in Alabama. Or have a snow blower in their garage or shed.

We have a massive snowblower in our garage  I want to convert it to diesel someday when I get a truck
