Great, now 3D printed rifles can fire 7.62mm NATO rounds

You never have to register a gun you produce and do not sell... The only time any gun is ever "registered" is when it is bought/made from an FFL and the ownership is transferred. Terrorists can't get these guns because 3d printing recievers is expensive and only LEGAL in the United States, we have borders and airport security so they can't come here. Gun rights haven't changed in 200 years, neither has the reasons we need them.

Well one reason is not needed but is enjoyed for most cases (there will be some people who need them yes) I am referring to hunting, which is need as a ok thing by most anti-gun compared to sport shooting which is seen as evil. Who knows, well no one that has gone insane to understand is reliable anymore.

Correct me if I am wrong but the reason for not being able to transfer it without registering it is because they want to lower the chance of someone prohibited from owning firearms buying it? Or am I was off? Sorry don't know US law as well as local.

I think it has more to do with the government not wanting people making a business of it without a manufacturers license. I could be wrong though.

No surprised at all that this was going happen, not one bit. I would love to test one of those and see how durable it is and if it is a good replacement for the current ones so either Stag, Colt, Mossburg can manufacture these cheaper and lower the cost of building your own AR.

You realize this doesn't matter right? Terrorists will break laws and smuggle in real weapons from wherever they want. You think a terrorist whose life will end in one plot will rely on 3d printed lower receivers? I don't think so. Terrorists/criminals can and will break laws. Whether they 3d print a lower receiver means nothing. It won't happen in a criminal case.

Breaking the law is what makes them criminals, so life in prison does not matter if they get a few more charges added so yup they will break as many laws as they wish.

YAY

i dont think terrorists have industrial grade 3d printer. Even if they do, why the hell would they? They have plenty of AK-47s and RPGs, a plastic gun wouldnt be useful to them at all. Then u might say that they could smuggle it into a plane. The bullets are still metal and in the case, its just the receiver.

It's pretty much all to do with taxes. They don't want somebody machining firearms in their garage and selling them as a side business without the proper licensing and taxes, because then the gov'nt would be losing out on all that money. Plus, they do like to keep tabs on who is manufacturing large quantities of firearms. But ultimately it's all about the money. I have plans laid out for building at least 10 guns for myself, I just need to save up the money to buy the parts.

Nope.

The lower receiver is 3d printed.  Most of the gun is not 3d printed.  this isn't really uncommon.  There have been companies for years now that sold polymer lower receivers.

Also you could buy a cnc machine or water jet and make metal guns.  It's called gunsmithing.  Still easier to just buy an illegal gun if your a criminal.  Until you can 3d print every part of a gun this isn't a big deal.

The receiver is the regulated part usually. Someone could say make a new automatic receiver quite easily, if it's not an automatic, in most places I believe it's ok to make your own receiver.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

The receiver is not what can make it fully automatic, the trigger group does that. I can understand your confusion though as the lower receiver can be a registered full auto machine gun and still have a semi auto trigger group in it.

To my knowledge no one has yet been able to make reliable trigger groups with a 3d printer. The surfaces need to be much harder than what 3d printing currently allows for.

I'm counting the trigger group with the receiver I guess, not really using prop[er terminology. I'm saying the barrel, stock, all of that crap, usually not touched by the law unless you are someone like feinstein and you think a pistol grip and hand guard make a gun more dangerous.  You can easily modify a lot of semi-auto guns to be full auto, but it's highly illegal.

There isn't enough nope on Earth to express the nope that is required for this.
"Hey lets create a technology that will eventually change how Humanity lives for the better.. and use it to make things that kill people".

"The wheel?" "No thanks, I'll walk, its more natural" - thus was the beginning of the doom of the Human race.

Certainly. When I'd first started out in the 3d printing world I had a bunch of idiots ask me to mod my props into actual weapons... So it's been coming for a while.

Its just depressing to see a technology with such potential for positive change used for such primitive things.

I think a lot of people miss how rapid prototyping, especially with more durable materials, will change the world. Gun regulation will be even more useless in America, and even places with few guns in the country in the first place. If the criminals want guns they WILL have them. I've had my life threatened enough recently to where the only thing that's stopping me from getting a concealed carry permit and a a pistol is I can't justify the expense personally. I'm not talking about home defense, I don't live in the best area, and I have a shotgun, but I'm not too worried about that, and that gun I purchased after I got shots fired near my old house a couple of times. I mean recently I was at a stake and shake and a friend that was driving apparently made eye contact with someone else in another car and they parked us in and almost shot us. I mean what the fuck.

My argument against gun legislation has always been based on two points-

In america, there are like more guns than people. People that commit crimes on the level or robbery or murder will not obey gun laws, and will easily be able to get guns

And all guns kill. Regulating shit like assault rifles because they look more menacing is outright stupid. For 100$ I purchased a shotgun that can blow a 6 inch hole in you easily, and I don't have to register it at all. Best part is making a shotgun is stupid easy for  a single shot, you can basically make it out of 2 pipes.

Point is (in america) most of this legislation is stupid, and only hurts those who don't want to be shot themselves.

With this, soon the WHOLE WORLD will be like this. Give it 20 years, I bet UK gun deaths will start to be much closer to countries like america with the sheer volume of guns (that are very easy to get illegally)
