uTorrent silently installing bundled Bitcoin mining software

Who even uses uTorrent?

Deluge, qBitTorrent, and Transmission are infinitely better in every way.

I am.

It's 2015. Throwing money willy nilly at developers is a horrifically dumb thing to do, and so is trusting reviews and most journalism outlets.

The exception are independent parties such as Total Biscuit, but that doesn't make up for actual personal experience trying a game properly.

My problem with that (And I can't say that I NEVER bootleg games, just very rarely anymore) is that most people don't buy a single-player story game after they've finished it, especially if they don't really intend to play it over immediately. It just feels like a waste understandably.

Says who? I do that. And if someone doesn't, well that's their issue. I won't stop doing it just because of others.

Besides, I don't beat a game I've pirated, because I would have bought the game long before I beat it if it was acceptable quality.

I have uninstalled and installed it again.. Can't see any unusual activities going on?? There was a quote in the article;

"The issue specifically relates to uTorrent version 3.4.2 build 28913 (32-bit), which is the company’s most recent update." The one I just downloaded is: build 38913. Maybe it's fixed?

Only reason why I put up with uTorrent is the scheduling.. Tried the qbittorrrent one and not a big fan.  If any one else knows other good clients that implement a decent scheduler I am all for. :)

deluge has has the same scheduling as utorrent either than or rollback utorrent to 2.2.1 or early 3.0 builds

I would love to believe more people do that, but they just tend not to. A lot of people are like me, I do binge play though. If I get the opportunity to actually sit down and game, you bet I'm gonna play though a game in one night or two.

I see your purpose though. You were looking to if it was worthy of your money. I never really did that, I knew if I wanted games. Back in the day when I used to play mainly console, I had to make sure games ran on my PC before I bought them. I didn't build a PC for gaming for myself (did for others) until the NVIDIA 9xxx series (had the 9600 GT). Even then I tended to sometimes not buy things I played through until years later. Once I started playing, I just didn't stop until the game was done.

I stopped using uTorrent after I posted in their forums under the "bugs" section complaining that the priority system wasn't working - low files downloading before high files, skipped files not being skipped and still being downloaded. A mod told me that it "isn't a bug".... righto...

If you guys checked it your self you'll find out that utorrent actually tells you about the software when you install it you just have to decline it.

I use this all the time and don't have any issue with it.  I am not using an updated version so I guess I am cool.  I don't notice anything suspicious running in the background so I will continued to use the software because it works and I like it. Simple as that.

I don't know why I like utorrent and prefer it but I do. I always have. But not long before they switched to a different site and chargine for a preium version and added ads, I grew weary and used old versions exclusively. The ones that say "if you paid for this, you were scammed"...the good ol days.

I am using 3.3.1 so if that is the latest version so be it.

In regards to seeing ads I don't know what the heck the OP is talking about.  All I have is a basic client that downloads crap.

I see no cpu increased activity when things are just idling and uTorrent is open.

Just say no to installing Bitcoin mining software.  Is it really that hard?

Not a hard thing to read and decline the offer.  It clearly talks about using your unused computer resources for it's own purposes so no hidden secret there.

Well looks like ill be uninstalling utorrent, any alternate recommendations?

utorrent 3.2.2 is the best one.

If you guys want, I can make a utorrent tutorial for the best settings (speed and encrpy).

Wow that's messed up, but then again so is pirating.

I'm currently using qBitTorrent to download the latest version of Debian Wheezy. That's not piracy.

Yeah there are many uses for it..

I use Torrents to send workmates (non-local) my media work.

Easy to create a torrent, have them connect and start right away without me having to upload the whole lot elsewhere first.

Another benefit, if someone looses a connection with a HTTP download or upload, it has to restart (without a download manager to pause it)

With Torrents, only that piece/block isn't downloaded/uploaded and will resume where it left off.

Saving time and money!

To those who say BitTorrent users are pirates, I would like to remind them that BitTorrent has legitimate uses as well. Sure, I admit I use BitTorrent to pirate TV shows (usually those that are not available for streaming or purchase easily where I live in Singapore), but that's just one of the many other uses I have for it as well, such as downloading Ubuntu ISOs or other similarly large files.

And to let you know, ever since the iTunes store became available here I have been pirating music much less, instead paying for downloads on more reliable, non-dodgy web sites whenever possible. TV shows and movies, I admit I pirate those from time to time, but it's usually because - as I said earlier - it's not easily available here where I live, or there's DRM attached on all the legal means to get the show.
