Keeping Desktop + Laptop + Camera safe at college?

Puffhead

Hi there, I'll be traveling out to the university soon and I'll obviously want to protect my stuff.

I plan on bringing my main rig, a laptop, and plenty of photography equipment.  Do any of you guys know good ways to keep them safe when not in use?
And is insurance for that a thing?

It's about $3500 worth of stuff.

Umm, here's what you do.

1. Buy safe.

2. Keep safe under bed.

3. ??????

4. Profit.

As far as your rig, you can get locking screws to replace your thumb screws and you can also get cables to screw into the wall/desk/loop around to secure it. As far as your other stuff, you could always get a decent safe ~ $200.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

If possible, have a safe where it's obviously not a safe. A thief will wanna take it since there will be something valuable, so disguise it.

For the camera and small stuff get yourself a good pelican case so you can lock it up and cable chain it to something like a bed post or something large like your desk to make it difficult to remove or break away. As for laptops, monitors or other things a kensington lock or cable with lock will work well.

Main rig you will have to lock to something.

when I was in a dorm I bought myself a locking filing cabinet. they have a lot of space and are loud as hell if someone trys to open them.

Really? Cause I had a duffel bag, filled with track stuff and my laptop, and it got stolen the next day.

Umm. You can get shipping insurance for justy about anything if you are planning to ship them. Renters insurance may cover them??? Worth looking into.

Otherwise don't leave it anywhere accessible or make them well known to others. If it is out of sight, it is out of mind.

Maybe a storage unit or safety deposit box for big ticket items.

If you can help it, don't bring everything.

First move in, and get a feel for the people around. And if everything's chill, bring things in slowly. That's what I did, and pretty much everybody in my dorm did as well.

I thought UH was pretty secure.

For the laptop, I personally would just always keep it on me, but for the other stuff, not a lot you can do. :/

Unless you want to spend even more money to find ways to lock them up in what little space you have. =/

To be honest, this is why I don't plan on having a desktop when I'm in college. I may change my mind, but there it is. My main computer will probably just be a powerful laptop.

3 things... Kensington lock, Fireproof safe, and if you are truly worried, insurance.

You can never be too safe with these things.

luckily dorms where Im going to you need a keycard to get in, and the hallways have cameras.

dont care if you guys know, but itll be in flint. look up flint. and Im not worried. Bringing possibly 2 desktops. but to get in my room, they will have to get in my dorm, then into my personal room. so the chance of getting though 2 locks without anyone notcing? and breaking though the first one, and managing to walk out with a pc without the camera seeing? yeah unlikely. time to switch to a watercooled full atx system. like to see them sneak that bad boy away
