How I felt the first time I used a mechanical keyboard

MrPete1985

I was actually surprised at how light the actuation is on my blues, coming from membrane

Yeah, blues are surprisingly light. I like my IBM Model M better than my CM storm quickfire, for that reason.

$58 Still relatively expensive, but that doesn't mean it's not possible.

Just bough myself a cm quickfire tk with blue switches. As my first mechanical keyboard it does feel much better then anything i have ever typed on before. I love the clicking sound and light actuation force. I literally spend a day typing random things because it feels so nice.

I want the Ducky YOTS, but I'm not sure whether I want to stick with blues or go with browns this time around, but I don't want to waste a tonne of money on it if it turns out that I don't like the switches and end up stuck with a piece of aluminium.

I "tried" them once in a shop, one of those razer boxes where you could press one button to feel how a mechanical keyboard is :P

I used a mechanical keyboard when I was younger (back then all keyboards were mechanical)... now I'm so sad I don't have it anymore :(

P.S. I got really mad/sad when my dad told me that where he worked they throwed out a bunch of old Cherry mech. keyboards because they were too loud

I used to game on a membrane keyboard for years since at the time i had moved from a laptop to a desktop the membrane seemed really nice. Then about a year ago i got a corsair K-90 thinking okay its not all mech. switches maybe this would be a good transition for me coming from old membranes. no i had no idea that mechs were so nice, i used to type on a typewriter so i should have known better. Now every time i hit the esc key or and function key i get this horrible *thud* my god it drives me insane, im looking at getting the k-75 since its 100% mech switches and i can get blues instead of reds which will be a nice reminder when i used to drag me typewriter to school just to piss off my teachers.

I have never actually typed on a mechanical keyboard. I have tried out blue switches on a Razer keyboard, but it was only the arrow keys in Staples. I really liked how the switches are light. I have always typed on membrane keyboards and a Model M (once) so I am used to typing on a keyboard with heavier switches. The switches were much lighter than I expected and I really liked it.

What switch would be best when coming from a chicklet keyboard? Because I can't really try any.

It's hard to recommend a switch; my favorite could be your least favorite.

If you really can't try any of them, Cherry MX Brown switches are generally the safest option.
