Acer announcing 1440p 144Hz Gsync monitor with IPS (Update: Reviewed)

Faa

If there isn't repercussions from pushing a IPS panel to 144hz like worse colors or brightness or longer input lag then my ROG SWIFT is gonna go cry in a corner, however I am pretty cautious about this until I hear some reviews

Traditional IPS panels have "overclocking artifacts" from being driven much above 70 Hz or so. Distorted, ghosting, input lag, etc. This monitor is supposed to use the AHVA panel by by AU Optronics, which is "IPS-Like". Supposedly based on similar technology, with all the benefits of IPS, but much faster hypothetical refresh rates that are on par with TN panels.

I can't wait to see reviews of these things once they actually get released.

For Sale: Meraki Bundle

Huh, well if it doesn't have the problems you listed then it is looking like a prettyyyy good monitor

For sure. So far the only AHVA panel released is a 60 Hz model, so we're just not sure. yet.

Too bad Samsung already announced a 180Hz PLS design with Freesync.

I'm not sure current gpus can properly do 180hz in anything remotely close to AAA. Many games are capped at 150 fps anyway (Smite comes to mind)

PS: and shitty ports are caped at 60 or 30.

This is pretty exciting! My next purchase is defo going to be a 1440 monitor, but I also want 120/144hz, Gsync and 1ms gtg response. The 4ms/5ms puts me off somewhat, as im currently using a BenQ XL2027T and it's dreamy to play FPS games on.

Also, another thing that i'm not overly fussed on is the whole ips rage, viewing angles are of absolutely no interest, as I tend to use my pc with the screen in front of me :/ and the colour reproduction won't be noticed after 5 mins in game for me. I'm more of a fps snob anyways, after using my 780ti / xl2027t for 6months, playing the ps4 is noticably choppy and trashy with the horrid fps.

Spending $1000+ (probably a LOT more in Canada as the ROG Swift is now $1000cad here after being released at $850 iirc) on an Acer product just seems kind of strange, they've got a very cheapy nasty feel to the brand, i'll just have to wait to see the reviews. If it turns out to be shit, at least it's going to drive the price of the swift down somewhat.

It's a pity the BenQ XL2730Z isn't gsync compatible, it ticks the rest of the boxes for me anyway.

GTG response time won't make a noticeable difference. You must wait for reviews to tell us what the input lag is like.

Good to hear bud. I shall remain on the fence until the reviews start flowing in, from what I can see there are already a few guys with them in hand.

Yeah, I am in the same boat as you. I really hope the reviews are positive and input lag is low!

Yeah, not going to hold much hope though! Such a shame the BenQ equivalent went down the adaptive sync path instead of gsync, i've too much money in the 780ti/Shield etc etc to jump ship to AMD.

You could say that, but it's normally sold out everywhere and the price has been rising since release which I don't particularly agree with. Also reading through the reviews on amazon, the amount of defective units they're sending out puts me off massively.

8ms is when it gets noticeable, and 10ms is when it gets unbearable

<5ms feels all the same to me

Well my 10 year old monitor is still great thanks to its 5mx response time

As Glenwing said.

I think you're confusing response time with latency.

^You won't notice a GTG response time of 4ms compared to 1ms, what we have to wait and see is what the latency will be in actual use.

http://www.displaylag.com/display-database/has a great list of monitors and their lag. Although it's sadly not up to date with all the latest monitors =\

However, any review of a monitor should tell you what the latency is like. Hopefully @LinusTech does a video on the XB270HU.

I don't think i am.

I'm talking about the time it takes for your movements to register on the display, correct?
