And cheaper... But not money... and shadowplay...

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

This is one of the most impressive GPUs of the year, it got a ton of awards, as It was a quiet, yet still very powerful, R9 290X ready for OC.

GTX 970s will get their performance tied up against the OC'd R9 290X, but they are usually $325+. For everyone with a max budget of $300 get this offer.

OCed lightning vs OCed 970, the 290x still pulls ahead by 5-10% @Lays just did benchmarks

1200/6400 290x lightning vs 970 g1 1600/7900, the 290x won in all the stuff I did except for dirt 3 the 970 won.

 

(1440p)

 

I believe in 1080p the 970 will win.

amd has a shadowplay thingy. works pretty well if not similar. 

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

Does anyone know why the lightning 290x keeps dropping to freakishly low prices? Is there some problem with this card I don't know about? Im putting together a system and I keep resisting the temptation to get this card for my gpu, but I don't know if I can resist much longer. I just have this nagging suspicion there must be SOMETHING wrong with it, because in terms of benchmarks it owns everything except the 980 at higher resolutions, and comes in almost half the price.

I've been waiting for something like this. I mean, the Fx 6350 isn't the most powerful thing in the world (it sure isn't an i7) but it puts up one hell of a fight.

Eric S. Raymond used an E6600 from 2005 until 12/30/14 or open source software creation. Raw data computations in excess of 18GB each. Core 2 Duos still have tons of life left, my friend.

basically the R9 290/x are the previous generation cards, introduced in 2013 September, they were competing with 7XX series

Now, a year after Nvidia already brought out 2 cards from their New, 9XX line, and AMD should/rumored to bring theirs in the next 3 month, so they are trying to compete with 9XX series with a last gen GPU in price, and sell the stock before the new AMD series.

 

R9 290/X are still good cards, can play games at high resolution well, and have good price. Lightning is MSI "special Uber Ultra Edition Deluxe" with their top end cooler and components.

 

If you have a good 500/550W PSU and good airflow, no space restriction and urge to OC, and playing above 1080p (for exampe DSR) than it is a very good card

If you need any of the Nvidia magic ( shadowplay, PhysX but you are not going to miss out...) then Nvidia
