FCC: BROADBAND HAS TO BE 10MBPS/1MBPS

themodernagenb

I like how you cropped and hid your location... you DO realize that's a map, right? xD

I cropped it to make it smaller. This is in Illinois near Chicago if you had any suspicions.

"Slower than 51% of AU"

You may have rubbish speeds, but there are obviously better providers.

In Australia Telstra is the best provider. Nearly 70% of the country is on ADSL2 still (Telstra has the best ADSL2 connections but it still depends on distance to the exchange) and about 27% have access to cable but around half of those have access to shit cable with awful routing overseas (which I have access to and choose not to go on.)

And I thought us Aussies had it bad...

Indeed it is nothing special but I could pay an extra $10 a month and get it upgraded to 100Mb/s. Upload speed is still annoying as fuck though.

Well, no shit. They forgot about us gamers who download shit tons of stuff and stream, you fucktards. First EA, Then Ubisoft, then AT&T. Who's next, McDonalds?

But 30kbps is more cinematic...

Anyone who has a sister hates the fact that his sister isn't Kasugano Sora.
Anyone who does not have a sister hates the fact that Kasugano Sora isn't his sister.
I'm not insulting anyone; I'm just being condescending. There is a difference, you see...

TekSavvy bro. Sure, it's a TPIA, so there's only so much competition it can provide, but it gives me 150/15 for ~$85/mo.

In some regions, the fiber is already laid out and ready to be used, but communities are bullied/pressured not to use it in exchange of their local duopoly to gouge them for inferior service.

Why not 10 symmetrical. And also that the cost for those speeds shouldn't be so expensive that many people rural areas cannot afford it.

its because there is fiber in some places Optus cable in others and Telstra cable in other places too how every most people are on adsl that depends on distance from the exchange.

And Telstra is Australia's best provider.

For example i am 2km from my local exchange.

Im guessing your on Telstra cable if so it is because the RF output power of a modem is much lower than the network equipment.

Northeast American here, I get 60/60 from Comcast and pay ~$120 a month. Wireless only gets 24/20 but that's normal I suppose, with multiple computers and phones running. I think 10/1 is pretty terrible if you ask me, especially since most companies will jack up their prices for this "new standard".

I'd rather live here in holland where I get tv and internet for 12 euro's a month (15 dollars approx)

I would give my left nut to even have the worst connection ya'll have posted on here if i remember right it was like 1.5 down and .75 up. I am forced to have Hughesnet satellite internet where i live because the state of florida signed a exclusive rights to service contract so no other isp can service my area without being sued by Hughesnet. I have to pay $90 a month for this garbage and am limited to only 350Mb per day usage... I know i said im in florida but satellites are always moving and this was the closest server to where the satellite was at the time of the test...

Worse than dial-up

Anytime i need to download anything i have to drive to Starbucks because it takes 4 hours to download a 50Mb file...

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has decided that Internet providers that use government subsidies to build rural broadband networks must offer speeds of at least 10Mbps download and 1Mbps upload. This is an increase from the previous requirement of 4 Mbps/1 Mbps speeds set in 2011. However, their original definition remains 4Mbps download and 1Mbps upload (something that they will immediately update I bet).

Of course ATT had something to say about that. "Given the pace at which the industry is investing in advanced capabilities, there is no present need to redefine 'advanced' capabilities... Consumer behavior strongly reinforces the conclusion that a 10Mbps service exceeds what many Americans need today to enable basic, high-quality transmissions." Verizon made similar arguments.

Only thing keeping me from moving into my fairly rural home I inherited is the lack of broadband. Only dial up or satellite net.  Have a facility I could transfer to that's only min drive away for work. The thought of no reliable net though
