Gaming on a 16:10 Monitor?

LarsReviews

I know there are threads like this, but time has passed, there have been new games and the GTX 900 series with more power is out.

Intel 4790k | Asus Z97 Maximus VII Impact | Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 16 GB 1866Mhz | Asus Strix GTX 980 | CoolerMaster G550 |Samsung Evo 250GB | Synology DS215j (NAS) | Logitech G502 |

It's actually a great aspect ratio over 16:9 and most personally, I'd prefer to it normal 16:9 monitors.

You will not encountered any weird stretching on most if not all (bad optimised games excluded as they're random) games.

And on a 900 series card, you will have no problem.

It depends on the game. I also use a 16:10 aspect ratio monitor. So far so good. I don't have any problem of using it. Except for assassin's creed. It will stretch a bit. But it's ok.

There's occasionally games without proper 16:10 options, but those games are usually the poorest of PC ports anyway. Even then, it won't stretch if you have the options set correctly in your Nvidia/AMD control panel, but you may have to deal with letterboxed 1080p.

Get familiar with PC Gaming Wiki, as they will mention if a game lacks 1920x1200 support. If a fix/hack/workaround exists, it's generally listed there as well.

The performance difference is usually minor. 1920x1200 is only about 10% more pixels than 1920x1080.

I couldn't find a good 16:10 monitor that will meet my expectations. I will just go with 16:9

I like 16:9 more personally, but it is very common and you should be able to run almost any game in it.

@LarsReviews, I have a older Acer monitor that is a 16:10 @ 1920 by 1200 and non of my videos or games are stretched. The only thing you may get when viewing a video at 1080P on a 1200P is black bars on top and bottom of screen. Does that answer your question?

Just an FYI, I have a acer model number X263W and the specs are not bad.  Link to specs: http://www.engadget.com/products/acer/x263w-bi/specs/

THE PIT VIPER SPECS

with 16:10, you usually loose a little FOV because most games are programmed with a constant vFOV. either that or you get slight letterboxing, which is common in games like AC

Source, i have a PA248Q

Intel i5-3570K/ Gigabyte GTX 1080/ Asus PA248Q/ Sony MDR-7506/MSI Z77A-G45/ NHD-14/Samsung 840 EVO 256GB+ Seagate Barracuda 3TB/ 16GB HyperX Blue 1600MHZ/  750w PSU/ Corsiar Carbide 500R

This is mostly with console ports and the console first engines.
