Why I'll Never Put You On Ignore (why my ignore list is empty)

I may leave debates, make mistakes, screw shit up, get tired of debating, take breaks from the forum, but I will never, ever, put you on ignore. Here's why.

 

Regardless of what light you may hold me in I believe I have an obligation to the community not to put anyone in my ignore preferences. I don't appreciate seeing people do it to me because it feeds their confirmation bias. I realize I'm not an entirely agreeable person but this is who I am and it's not changing. The only way to stay confident in your beliefs is to constantly subject them to debate and reexamine them. Ignoring people that would allow me to do that more effectively is contrary to my personal credo and the morals I uphold in regards to objectivity.

 

I encourage you and others to do the same but I understand it's a lot to ask for some of you.

If you are offended by what someone says, then stop posting in the thread and move on.

I've butted heads with few members in the past, some of which made me envy those who smashed their heads against a brick wall. BUT objectivism is a good thing for discussion. Sometimes you get a whole new perspective (other times you will forever see the other person as full of bovine poo). We've butted heads before and also agreed to things as well. As of Oct 1st 2014, there is only one member on my ignore list. Just one. Mainly because they tend to spew anti America crap every single opportunity and this tasteless type of posting the forum can do without, at least when I'm personally viewing it.

We are civilized and classy people, Builder and I, therefore we would absolutely never tarnish a discussion with anything more than a friendly debate among friends. Now in random threads its fair game though.

I'm very quick to add people to my ignore list or block them. I don't have anyone here on my ignore list (because frankly, I think that's only so people cannot contact me personally) but on many sites I have no qualms about blocking or ignoring other users.

 

Here's my reasoning:

 

I don't care if I'm called out about being incorrect about something. I'll stand corrected if I make a mistake, and I think it's really stupid to block or ignore someone for correcting me. It's when I find something to be offensive that I go ahead and block someone. I also block people for spam, but that's a different story. I don't tolerate anything I find offensive. For example, a personal attack directed towards me would be where I draw the line. Call me a dick, it doesn't make any difference to me.

 

And honestly, I really don't care if anyone blocks me. I couldn't care less.
