If you still have issues after upgrading, run this command in an Administrative Command Prompt:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

and try restarting.

This won't delete any of my files or programs will it?

Nope. It just checks for corrupt or missing system files and replaces them if found.

I ran that and then I ran sfc /scannow and it found and replaced some files. I'm still trying to get Windows Update to start downloading the Build but it's taking a while for it to show up.

If you want the latest build, and it is not showing up, you can download the ISO of the latest build, and use that to upgrade your Windows.

(Scroll down a bit to the drop down list, to pick your current edition of Windows 10. Build 14332 is the latest build)

AS long as you select upgrade when using the iso, then yes.

Insider Preview 14342 released, anyone have any build notes? Doesn't seem that MS released a page on it yet.

The former is the stable build while the latter is the latest insider build.

Holly crap guys! The new Skype UWP app is actually good!

I am impressed. I am mostly impressed because Skyope team tried many times to do an app, and beside the desktop Win32 Skype app, it pretty much all sucks in the Windows world (fine under Android and iOS, I believe).

So I expected the same garbage as before, complete with lack of the most basic features like emojis, like the Windows 10 Mobile Skype + Messaging app (until later on, when it eventually supported).

Anyway, the new Skype app is:

 -> High-DPi aware (because it is UWP app)

 -> Has all the features, beside sending files, but you can send images.

 -> Click and view images in chat

 -> Emojis and animated ones

 -> Group chat

 -> Audio and Video chat

 -> Add/Remove people

 -> Dark theme

 -> Looks OK, and usable

 -> And most importantly, you can login with old Skype accounts!

-> Nice and fast

 -> So far, messages came and go in order based on my little testing.

Worth a look! You need to be on the latest build.

Clearly still has a lot of work to be done, but so far very promising!

Ikr. It's actually decent unlike the Skype Win32 version.

One thing I wish it had, is the ability to minimize Skype to the notification tray, like Win32 Skype, and like other software that has the ability to run in the background.

Agreed x 1000

I know I will have shots fired at me for this but I miss the Pre-MS Skype. I miss the old Skype group chats, I would sit-in and just listen to some of the ones that were set up like classes and learn something cool but that was a long time past.....

This is a limitation of UWP if I understand correctly.

You need room for the download, if you do the update locally. Else you need to download it, and prepare a USB flash drive or disk (all done with the Media Creation Tool), and you need space for Windows 10, as the setup will take your Windows 7, and put it in a folder called "Windows.OLD". This is your 30 day recovery in the case you want to go back, and also will have files/folders that weren't transferred for whatever reason (rare)). You can delete it manually via Disk Cleaner part of Windows, or wait after 30 days.

  • 2 weeks later...

New Windows 10 build! Build 14352

So there is nothing big that is new in this build, as we are coming to the end of the release of Redstone 1 / Anniversary Update of Windows 10. It is mostly improvements, and bug fixes.

What's changed:

  • File Explorer icon got updated again, taking a step back of sorts by coloring it again.
  • Cortana with Groove Music you can make it play/pause your music, or you can make it play an artist, or album.
  • You can set a timer with Cortana, and cancel it, and get how much time is left.
  • Sticky note integrates Cortana, and recognize phone numbers and URLs
  • Ruler (ink) has now a compass
  • General improvements to the Windows Ink experience
  • Improved Game bar support with full screen games
  • You can now upgrade a Pro edition to Enterprise of edition without a full re-install system. Just put the product key, and join the domain if it isn't, and you are set.

Beside that a long list of bug fixes:

Quote
  • Feedback Hub should now be localized properly. If you install a different language, you will need to relaunch Feedback Hub to have it show in that language.
  • We fixed the issue with Intel HD Graphics 3000 or Intel HD Graphics 2000 GPUs causing rendering issues and instability with Microsoft Edge. If you mitigated this issue by using software rendering instead of GPU rendering, you can go back to GPU rendering.
  • Starting with this build, pinned tabs in Microsoft Edge should no longer get lost after updating to a new Insider Preview build.
  • We fixed an issue causing Surface Books to bugcheck (bluescreen) when using Windows Hello.
  • We fixed an issue that caused the Brightness Quick Action to appear missing.
  • This build includes fixes for Precision Touchpads. We have Improved reliability of using gestures to switch between virtual desktops. We also improved touchpad responsiveness for pans and two finger taps. We also fixed an issue where swiping on the touchpad might not wake the device once it was in Connected Standby state.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in maximized UWP apps slightly overlapping the taskbar if taskbar was positioned on top.
  • We fixed an issue in the Action Center where it wouldn’t show the hover state when moving your mouse over notifications if a notification had been expanded.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in missing icons in Action Center when using Light mode.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in “Restart Required” continuing to show in Action Center after restart has already occurred.
  • Increased hit target of X icon for notifications in Action Center, to make them easier to dismiss.
  • We fixed a timing issue where the Bluetooth Quick Action might appear (with state ON) for a device with no Bluetooth.
  • We fixed an issue where using Esc to exit a full screen video with Microsoft Edge maximized would result in the window becoming unmaximized.
  • We fixed an issue where playing mp4s from a network share in the Movies & TV app would sometimes show an “MF_E_UNSUPPORTED_BYTESTREAM_TYPE” error.
  • We fixed an issue that resulted in the volume mixer slider for system sounds getting reset to 100% after receiving a notification or altering master volume.
  • Update notifications to now deep link straight to Update History, rather than the Windows Update landing page in the Settings app.
  • Updated the Settings app so now the CTRL + E keyboard shortcut will set focus to the Settings search box.
  • We fixed an issue where theme settings were not roaming correctly to other PCs with the same Microsoft account.
  • Fixed an issue resulting in the All apps list in Start being blank for certain languages
  • We updated the Action Center icon to now hide unread notification count when the taskbar is using small icons, as there’s not enough space to display it.
  • Fixed an issue with Command Prompt where it wasn’t keeping the current line in view after resizing the window.
  • We fixed an issue that resulted in the User Account Control dialog sometimes appearing behind other windows instead of in the forefront.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in the Lock screen sometimes not showing the Caps lock warning when Caps lock was on.
  •

And here are the known big issues:

Quote
  • Previously installed extensions for Microsoft Edge may not work for around 15 minutes after your first sign-in. A work around for this is to manually re-install each extension from the Store.
  • In some cases, the new Cortana features highlighted above may not work. Restarting your PC should fix the issue and get the features working.
  • Using the keyboard to navigate in certain Store apps like Netflix or Tweetium does not work. You will need to use your mouse.
  •
