Around 6gb when I'm just browsing + watching stuff online, when I game usually 8-10gb sometimes more.

 

I run a ts3 server and it hogs a few gigs sometimes.

I do extremes, since I don't run background processes or anything, I usually get away with about 1-2GB when web browsing, and programming (though using an outdated browser that is not based on Chromium. I'm gonna have to update soon and that's gonna kill me).

 

I ramp that up and use all 16GB during intensive work.

 

My early tests on my 64GB setup indicate I will be able to use all of that effortlessly.

My current RAM usage is 3.7GB out of 12GB available. 

I have Chrome, JDownloader, Everything, uTorrent, Virtual CloneDrive, Onenote & EventGhost open. 

Chrome includes Hangouts, Google Now notifications & Google Play Music as well as normal tabs...

I can use all 16gb in my system. Mostly when It comes to MC.

8GB for gaming, firefox, teamspeak, afterburner, hwinfo etc...8Gb is plenty for most users you need some specific task that require more RAM to justify having anything more than 8GB in a system, the most use i've ever seen on my system is 5.5GB while playing watch dogs with a bunch of stuff open to monitor and record videos of CPU benchmarks.

Between Gaming, Chrome, and VOIPs 7GB ain't hard to hit... So I always recommend 8GB minimum D:

I almost never go above 33% usage on 8Gb even when gaming.

 

A few images, Safari and Firefox with half a dozen tabs each, a few HD VLC clips, HWmonitor, uTorrent, Grabbit, Steam, and of course AMD/Logitech and other drivers.

Usually around 6-8 gigs when I have a game alt tabbed. Rarely more then 10 gigs. I have 16 gigs.
