I think it's time I put my thoughts in this thread.

 

I use AdBlock sometimes, but I'm beginning to want to use it on this forum because of how stupid the ads are. Seriously. 80% of the ads I see on here is shit like "There are single women in your area" and countless advertisements for dating websites. I don't want these fucking scummy piece-of-shit ads. I wish they would go, they really do degrade my experience on this forum.

 

But, of course, Linus can't choose what ads appear on the forum. If it was tech-related advertisements, from Intel and Corsair, etc...I'd be happy. It's targeted at me, and that's all that matters.

But we use Incognito so that we won't have to wipe our history in the main browser so that they won't lose data about us and thus have less accurate ads. (the reason incognito was made....)

No, no, and no. I'm a university student with a student job and internship in a company that isn't in marketing. Ads legitimately do not bug me. I don't give a shit if I have to watch 5 seconds of an advertisement before I watch a 10 minute video. I don't give a shit that there is an ad at the bottom of this page for an online public school. ISP's don't get the ad money from a website unless it is their website. LMG gets the money from the ads on this website, not the ISP that the host uses. You're confused.

And I said everyone hates COMMERCIALS as TV commercials. (forgive the spelling, drunk) and that point cannot be denied. What we're going down is the same road premium cable went down, at first it was advertised as "no commercials" and now on cable and satellite we have commercials.

 

keep the internet commercial free. I do still go to youtube, and yes I click skip ad, but when I'm not given the option to skip the ad, I close the window and go to someone else's video. I WILL NOT BE SUBJECT TO FORCED ADVERTISING.

 

I don't mind ads on the sides or bottoms or tops of websites, ads that make no noise, don't slow down my access of content, etc, that I am ok with. I am not ok with Youtube forcing me to watch 5 adverts per episode of mock the week, its fucking annoying.

 

At the very least, PLEASE, advert companies, fire the dipshits making ads for you becuase their adverts are usually so fucking annoyingly stupid that it makes me want to literally blow up the planet. Not out of anger, but out of sheer abhorence, it makes me feel what prof. farnsworth said, "I dont want to live on this planet anymore"

I have done some tests, I have a dynamic IP and by using a vpn with clean computers I can vouch the dating websites always get served, I think they have a paid preference in the adservice.

You obviously don't understand business transactions. ISP's are paid for a service, that service being bandwidth. Money made with that bandwidth, whether it be ads, subscriptions, retail sales is not related to what is paid to the ISP's. It is not even reported to them and they can't track it as that is another transaction between the bandwidth user whoever is supplying the product, like an ad agency.

They provide the service, they have EVERY right to know what goes on, on that service, because it's technically their property. Want proof? its called liability, they HAVE to know what goes on through their service, because if something illegal goes on, they're technically facilitating it, and thus culpable for it.

I use adblock and I kinda feel bad about it because I'm basically making Linus and other people I support lose money when I'm using it , but I hate seeing ads all the time on any site and it slows down my web browser. If there were more relevant ads that people benefited from such as sales on computer sites like Newegg, NCIX, etc, then I'l definitely turn off adblock and bring @LinusTech some money so he can continue making awesome videos

5 Seconds? Most ads I get on my mobile (haven't installed ad blocking on it) are at least 30 seconds and often 2 or 3 minutes long.

Youtube doesn't force ads over 30 seconds. Any longer ads have the skip option.

The problem with that arguement is that it isn't an argument at all.

 

They provide a service, they are legally responsible for anything that goes on, on that service (if they don't immediately report it upon finding out about it). If you honestly think they dont make every single dime they can off of it, then you need to be a little more skeptical.

longest ad I've ever had to sit through on youtube was 20sec.  30sec if you include the ad that sometimes comes on midway through a long clip. I don't see how it's a tough ask for what can be hours of free content.

For me, its not the length of time that matters, its how annoying the content of the ad is. And from my perspective, ad execs seem to think that the more annoying an ad is, the better it does. (see flo from progressive, those FUCKING RETARDED sonic commercials [i literally hate those guys more than anything else in the world])
