Everyone is blind for about 2 hours of the waking day.

mr moose

Interesting video explaining how the brain blocks visual stimuli every time the eyeball moves.

2 hours is an exaggeration. About 40 minutes is more realistic.

Can anyone post a TL;DR of this?

When you move your eyes, the brain cuts off visual feed for a tiny amount of time in order to cut out motion blur, and cuts back in when they stop.

And now I will be thinking about this every time I look in a mirror.

But very intersting nonetheless.

This one will really mess with your head if you have time to watch it (1 hour).

TL:DW

There are two different ways our brain perceives image, physical response and cognitive understanding.  Imagine being able to look at a sandwich and have absolutely no idea what it is (like looking at a word in a different language) but being able to pick it up using hand eye co-ordination.

I think the most obvious (and close to home) evidence of human vision being able to ignore things is probably vitreous eye floaters.

That's why film movies have black bands inbetween frames.

"And you didn`t see who stole your car?"

"I moved my eyeballs, when it was stolen"

Best excuse in school, if you did't get something!!! I moved my eyeballs.

I've been seeing them a lot recently. It's quite cool to think there's all that stuff in the way of your retina yet you can still see perfectly. If you look at a blank white wall and move your eyes around it you can see them quite easily.

Yeah you can, everyone has them from what I've gathered, whoever I ask knows what I'm talking about.

It's in biology in year 8, so Most Australians who pay attention in school should know what they are.
