Should i wc my r9 290?

Hi guys!

So i got an MSI twin frozr r9 290 a couple of months ago but i've only really started using it to its full potential a couple of weeks ago.

So it's temperature on some games goes to 95º C which it's kinda high for my likes. I live in Portugal and i the temperatures on the summer are kinda high ( it's 2am and its around 27º degrees outside and in my room its probably around 30º), so it's gonna be hard to keep it cooled.

I've always wanted to watercool my computer but i never found the investment worth it with my old setup.

Am i gonna benefit from it?

Is a 240 radiator enough to cool the gpu and my 3570k ( at stock now but it could probably get some oc in the near future)??

Should i go for it guys?

Thanks alot!

ea go for it. The 240 should be plenty unless you are doing any crazy overclocks on either.

95c?? Really? Wow that's high for non-reference. And no, a dual won't be enough. The general rule of thumb is 1 x 120 rad per block + 120 for overclocking headroom. So you'd probably need a 240 and a 120

Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum.

Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?

That's actually surprising to me.

Did you remount the heatsink and reapply thermal paste?

Fair enough, yeah I did. It only reached low-mid 70s before that tho

Still really good.

Either you got lucky or a lot of people didn't.

With the same outside temperatures i have?

Hhmm... probably a little bit above my budget... but its manageable. If i get just a 240 rad now ( and later in the future ill get the 120) can the temps go down a fair bit?

Sorta, it's like max 30c outside in the afternoon, but inside it's probably only 20 or so and even cooler at night which is when I benchmarked I think

Yeah it'll go down for sure, at least 20c if not more I'd think

Edit: Holy crap the server keeps on derping whenever I try to reply -_-

yeah had the same problem with the replies...

But it'll go down 20c with just one 240 rad?? or with the 240+120?

I have a R9 290X at 1150 Mhz and a 4770k at 4.4 Ghz on a 280mm rad, so a 240 will be fine. I only have issues with my CPU in the heat department. my GPU never hits over 55-60 even when pushing the card to 1200 on a high over volt.

Hmm.. Acording to corsair i can fit a 280 rad on top of my 350d. Is it worth over the 240 one?

i had 95c/8xc on cf same card but now it does not go over 69c with ac off with ac on doesn't go over 63c & it's getting hot NYC.

i dropped like 20-30c by just adding a kraken g10 +h55 & vrm heatsink

under 110$

Did that allow you to OC the cards a fair bit more?

I'm planning a build using 290's, and I'm torn between 2 air cooled models or getting 2 reference models and throwing the Corsair AIO blocks on them.

I've also always wondered if it's possible to install 2 of the AIO's on the front panel of the case. There's room for 3 140mm fans in the cases I was looking at.

Nice build though!

I've not tried to oc, getting good fps on 2k res.

i think  it's possible to mount 2 AIO on the front but not the h55 tubes are to short

it is about %36 more rad. its like having 2.5 x 120 rad. I would recommend IF IT FITS.

KEEP in mind you need fitting and tubing space, the MOBO can get in the way.

Yeah and i hate to do measurements... always afraid to miss something or not measure in the right place but it'll try to do it right!

Thanks man = )
