What to do with an old computer?

79wjd

I would personally pull it apart, and keep some parts, like the CPU, video card, etc as kind of trophies, or decorative pieces around the house/room.

I was going to say something like this if there are any nice looking parts. I have a mate who got his first gaming PC's GPU's framed two GT 8800's that had really nice graphics on the cooling shroud. It actually looks pretty nice as they're nice looking cards and the framing was done well.

He keeps them on the wall above his current battle station and they still work if he ever wants to use them.

To whom? Its really not worth selling due to the fact that someone can buy a brand new computer thats better in every way for $250.

Already have a 1tb my book live I don't use.

Linux Mint is probably what I'm going to try....although I still don't know what I'd do with it then.

Athlon 64 3000+ and A8N-Sli are both difficult to over clock with (or so I've heard). But again, even if I do over clock it, that still doesn't leave me with much to do.

You can atleast get 30 bucks or something like that for it.

Try linux or something like that.

I turn my old old computer into a fun 30min in the back yard by filling it up with all matter gas cans and fireworks then blowing it sky high on film, your uses may not be as destructive though hehe.

  • 2 weeks later...

Why not steam box it. And turn it into a pure console meaning that all you do with it is play games also download emulators onto it so you have more variety

Use 'em as a foot stool/rest.

I literally have my feet on an old PC case containing a fully working PC (Atlhon XP 2800+ inside), under my desk.

gaming on an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and Radeon x1950 Pro...I can probably get 5 whole fps in tf2.

lol, that only works when parts are rare...i.e. modern computers will never be worth much as all the parts are so mass produced.

1)Scavenge the parts

2) Keep it somewhere out of sight

A decent ATX case--once modded a bit...a 430w psu that came with the case, a socket 939 mobo, Athlon 64 3000+, 2x 512mb and 2 1gb ddr400 ram, 220gb hdd, AMD Radeon x1950 pro.

The case, psu, and hdd are the only things that I could ever use again--IF I build my moms next computer.

I know this problem so well.

I have an old laptop I've installed linux mint on for no reason. It can do steam in home streaming but I have no use for it. Then I have another even older laptop which I just keep how it is and don't use.

Then my old PC I forgot the specs of. I took parts from it like the optical drive and a 320gb hdd for backups.

Then I have another to PCs lying around. Some guy gave them to me but I don't think I have any use for them. Never even tried if they turn on.

I think I'm a hoarder and need help lol

What were the specs of it? And how much of an improvement did linux yield over windows? (also, which version of windows)

I'm using a Power Mac G4 as a bedside table at my Dad's house atm; my uncle is using a similar model as a coffee table :D
