Apple CEO Tim Cook tweets photo showing Mac production line running Windows

JAKEBAB

Someone's missing the point here- that's the MAC PRO assembly line. The iMacs shown are not being tested or assembled, they're there as tools for the workers to handle the machines. it IS a bit comical that they would use windows instead of their own os, but I gues they didn't want to buy external hardware (leaving them with only imacs and mac minis). Probably they need a program that runs only on windows and didn't want to bother porting it to osx or writing one on purpose.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Yes you as well. That isn't Apple but Flextronics. They don't have their own OS or hardware.

This might very well be a assembly or test station designed by Apple for the manufacturing of the Mac Pro. Why would Apple use iMacs? Because they can (get them cheap).

Not going to read the article or all the comments but I'd like to point out that Apple often uses virtual machines (or BootCamp) to run Windows and Linux and then shift through the screens depending on what work or application they need to do.  It isn't a big deal.

I'd bet that they actually have some Windows PCs in their engineering department.

Look at all the fanboys skitzing out over the thought that apples might be built by companies that use windows.  It really makes me wonder how half you guys survive in the real world when your online persona's are so insecure.

I know, and truth be told we're all guilty at times, but this is all over such a non event, I mean big deal! a factory was using windows on apple hardware, that shit happens all the time, MS even wrote code for apple.  It's just a big non event.  And without anyone actually knowing what that part of the line does and why windows is installed, it's just as petty to assume you know as it is to have a go at someone for speculating something different.

I mostly just thought it was funny that tim cook posted it to his twitter i do wonder why they are using windows and why there isnt a mac app for whatever they are doing but i don't actually care like this doesnt mean windows is better or whatever.

Edit: i dont think people in the thread are getting the humour in this they have to make up so excuse or some reason why its being used.

yeah well people like being fanboys. You can't really be a bigger apple fan than me, I even used to be an Apples sales specialist.

But honestly who cares if the manufacturing line uses windows, its just software to run the line. It literally makes no difference to anything

Because I cannot imagine there is another manufacturing plan in the world that uses iMacs. Apple would have to spending possibly millions on creating software for the plant and hire staff to provide support.

The plant is owned by another company, its possible apple just provided them iMacs to use for free since they are making the mac pro there.

There are many advantages to using industry proven software with support than making your own possibly crap software that has no support and no proven record

Exactly. the product at the end of the line is going to be the what they want regardless of what companies or tools they choose to use.

yeah its not like its going to contaminate anything

Not even sure its worth of more than a quick comment. "oh look they use windows on the mac assembly line.." thats all there is to say

The only persons having a problem with this, are those Windows advocates who got their mind blown over the fact, that someone uses a freaking expensive iMac to run Windows when they could have just build a $300 machine on their own.

You can't have every software on any OS.

Now that is funny, both companies use eachother in one way or another.

Sheesh.

MS uses Macs running both OSs, Apple uses Macs running both OSs. Hell, Apple might even use other laptops (because what business doesn't want to know what the competition is producing?)

Maybe its because I've done the corporate song and dance before, but this isn't surprising. You tend to use the best tool for the job, regardless of who makes it. Whatever software is being used in the manufacturing/production/testing of those Mac Pros probably is Windows only, and its probably so good and/or so niche that making a OSX version is pointless. So why bother?

Who cares? Its not like it's an Apple owned facility, they can use whatever tool is needed to get the job done.
