The word "Appreciation"

wng_kingsley7

@Whaler_99 @LinusTech @Windspeed36 @airdeano

Before reading further than this sentence note I'm angry & take it with a grain of salt.
For everyone who does read this and gets a bad mention you're salty.

Google search for the following : define appreciation

Honestly I am done with helping immature & new user for now. It's a complete waste of my time when I don't get appreciated with what I try and do with unknowledgable users. Now I gotta write this bloody entire essay again because I accidentally pressed ctrl+w. FKKKK me.
You know I will tell you how my day has gone. I helped a new user get sweet dual monitor setup for his personal & work use (recommended two U2414H).
He replied with a thank you post which goes into my first message/topic.

I would appreciate every who I talk to even if I don't know them to reply to me like this but the world isn't how I pictured it 2-3 years ago.

Why don't you be more appreciative about other users and their reply? (rhetorical of-course)
I would like to tell you about my recent comment to helping a user find out what to do with his current hardware.
Thread posted by lusk titled : what memory? & random questions and other nonsense
URL : http://linustechtips...e/#entry2090155
I often read through a lot of posts & threads replying with feedback and suggestion and I come across this person by the name of lusk who had issues with running his ram as you can read from the title of his post, after 2-3 minutes of careful reading I begin typing up my answer to his reply finding resources like Linus's videos to help provide a fact/quote that can be used to further the understanding of the user.

The three main questions he needs answered are:

  • How much ram do I need? (given statement "Planetside 2 runs with 95% usage")
  • What is ram frequency, timing & cast latencies
  • Does adding an extra graphics card such like the 280X for crossfire x improve the capacity of vram in-total?

after carefully writing out my reply to each question as best that I can sum up, arraygamer (new member) replies to his lengthy question with this:

Quote

first, adding a second 280x will NOT add to your memory, second, does your mobo have 2 or 4 memory slots?

Like seriously did you even manage to construct a decent sentence before challenging the first paragraph of backstory. Do you not consist of the intellectual brainpower to even write in points with explanations justifying your answers at all? (I didn't question his ability to inform lusk about ram and continued to provide easy understanding information) After neatly labelling each answer 1a, 2a, 3a I use video quotes from Linus's channel to be a base of tutorial/information.

I now digress from the topic and think has my reply to his issue make him more aware of the hardware of ram? I say yes but overlooking it now the explanations could've been better. Is there any appreciation for people who write up long paragraphs of text to make you more smarter more informed? Well I got fked over by a couple forum members who didn't care about me providing information about what they needed to know.

asking for two alternative cases from Corsair the 900D or 750D. I reply to a user who specifies the 750D being a case which good case but opts to recommend the 350D (note good buy for college) I would've agreed to him however HaydenMadeEm inquired that he wants take leverage of the 2011 socket further his use for video production, so I take the time to quote tea1337 "he requires a case with 8 pci-e bracket due to the rampage 4 black being e-atx not atx"

fter I debate with him to get either the rampage 4 gene or maybe the Z87/Z97 based system he runs his mouth off saying

Quote

I need an LGA 2011 platform as I am going to get the 4930k.

Which I decide to follow-up with a google image of the rampage 4 gene with a sentence that acknowledges his requirement I wrote back

Quote

Fine but like I wrote you should've wrote in the upcoming build guide not in this section. Go X79 but you didn't read my post correctly. 4 Gene is X79/lga 2011 compatible.

I inform user HaydenMadeEm this is a compatible motherboard with the 4930K and follow-up with why he didn't open a thread including this where he plans his X79 build to which I write

Sorry, I'm a newbie  :D I would've written it there, but I thought that since my original question was just about 900D or 750D I thought it would've been better to write it here

Dude I would reconsider because you're going to eventually go to the http://linustechtips...s-and-planning/ section to open up another thread.
as you should probably know the 750D and 900D will fit this matx motherboard however you'll be overspending on a case that cost the exact same as the motherboard itself.
You'll be wasting 6 extra slot on nothing but thin air money wasted.

I will forget mentioning all that stuff and welcome you to the LTT Forum, enjoy posting threads talking to admins & mods.

Somewhat careless jumping to conclusions & I provided an explanation as you can read above I understand he's very new...Guess what. No reply with a gesture of thanks. Thx for shitting on my parade (not gonna swear or say inexplicable names)

In this next topic I think a clear lack of appreciation really pissed me off a great deal.
Posted by H4X3R titled : Good fps mouse

In this thread you can tell that I was clearly pissed off. I offered to suggest the Logitech G502 by which is a fantastic gaming/mmo oriented mouse adding on I explain that he can get it from the Logitech website for 69.00 <--UK Price. He marks it as "best answer" by which I reply back and say thanks

Quote

Thank you for choosing my answer to be very good, also thank @helping he/she suggested corsair and logitech.

If you had used the link you would've seen that it is 76 euros.

If you check out the Logitech website you will find under their gaming branding the G502.

I thank helping for mentioning before me the brands logitech & corsair in his post.

Going into a noob thread expecting praise for helping out is a waste of your time, if you knew the answers to the questions of more advanced users you'd find yourself getting more thanks.

I will answer threads with noobish questions because I know the answer, I don't care if they say thanks or not because I've educated them whether they appreciate it or not.

Most new users don't even 'Like' posts when you help them, I don't care about that either, likes are meaningless, I of course prefer it someone says thanks out of courtesy, and most do, even the guy you are complaining about for instance.

Well personally I don't help people expecting anything in return. I don't even expect them to like me. But when I help someone (on here or in real life) I do it because I honestly want them to make the right decision in whatever it is. I don't care whether they do anything for me in return or even if they dislike me for helping them. I realize not all people are like this and I understand if you are not. But if you are not this kind of person and you do actually need praise for the effort you put into helping people then you will just have to decide whether you want to keep helping or not. If the reward is too little for the effort nobody will blame you for not wanting to keep doing it.

I think some people expect too much in return for their effort. This is the way society works, get used to it. Very rarely will you be thanked for your work, and sometimes you will be criticized when you try to help, but you've just got to move on. If you feel like all the time and effort you put in to your posts is being wasted you probably should move on and do something you will enjoy more. Appreciation for one's work is not common nowadays, so it should definitely not be your objective.

Unless you're troubleshooting, they're just opinions or observations. The mouse guy was kinda crabby, but when he gives you a site and a budget, suggesting something over it or on a different site (still over his budget) isn't all that helpful.

Since I hadn't seen this thread, and I have already replied to your blog post, I'll just copy paste my reply in here and add a couple of things.:

Unfortunatly, I don't think you can get away from ungrateful people. Some people probably see your help as a given, and therefor they don't see any reason to give you thanks. However this will not stop thme from calling you out on, what they consider, bad advice. In their eyes, you are the expert and therefor you have certain responsibilities. I don't that this is correct, nor that this is the way it should be, but some people do see it this way.

Some people also have a hard time showing appreciation. Just becuase they don't say "Thank you", it doesn't mean they don't appriciate the time and effort you put into helping them. Different people have different ways of showing appreciation.

I am one of those people that have a hard time showing appreciation. I very rarely use the ´Like´ feature and one of the reasons why I don't make many topics, is becuase I don't know how to respond to people.

Personally, I don't really care for appreciation, since I do what I do for different reasons. The only thing that slightly annoy me, is when people don't update you on whether or not your idea worked.

While a "Thank you" is always nice, but I don't require it to keep going.

I understand that appreciation is important to you, but neither an internet forum nor the world in general, will hand appreciate explicitly for every good deed you do. Maybe you should just see appreciation as the neutral position. When people don't respond in a negative way, they appricate what you have done. Atleast that's what I'll recommend.

I'm new to this forum, but just wanted to respond to OP.
Your feelings are what they are and your response to your recent experience is justified.
There are rude people in this world who fail to say please and thank you.
That being said, I urge you to look at this from a further distance.
Please consider how your knowledge affects other people who you never "see", who gain
by reading the information and opinions you provide. The public forum is an awesome tool
for people like myself, who seek answers to their questions without becoming a forum
member. All my knowledge of computers has come directly from sources like this forum
AND people like you, who take time and effort to help others. If everyone felt like you, the
well, would dry up and that would IMHO be a major loss. I hope your anger doesn't last,
here's hoping YOU are able take that grain of salt and make many future contributions.
Thank You!
