Is there anyway to get the price tag down to $500?

Budget (including currency): $550

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games such as Fortnite, CS2, and Madden 24.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I'm trying to build 5 identical systems, 4 for my family and 1 to sell. I need to get the price down to $550 before I start building and I'm trying to make the computers able to play at 1440p at 165hz+. PCPARTPICKER List:https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

Apevia's prestige isn't a bad lineup, If anything, it's the only decent option for $50 unless there's a deal for another psu. It's not the best (Tier C) but it's fine for budget builds

Dirty little secret about Apevia (and other bargain brand arson box manufacturers): whatever they sent out to get that 80+ Gold and whatever they sent out to reviewers to get whatever positive ratings they have is not what's in the unit that appears on your doorstep. Don't buy a PSU that will put your whole damned system at risk in order to save $3.00.

Oh... Apevia power supply and that motherboard with the most basic IO shield possible.

At $89, I'd rather buy a more featured B450 chipset board, like Asrock B450M steel legend : https://pcpartpicker.com/product/hNdxFT/asrock-b450m-steel-legend-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b450m-steel-legend

You only lose pci-e 4.0 lanes in the video card slot, but if you go for a budget build, you're not gonna buy a modern video card that would suffer from lack of pci-e 4.0 lanes.

Or, go cheaper at 75$ and get a Asrock B450M Pro4 R2.0 : https://pcpartpicker.com/product/cYJp99/asrock-b450m-pro4-r20-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b450m-pro4-r20

That leaves you with 100$ to buy a video card.

A "new" RX 580 is 105$ on Amazon : https://www.amazon.com/s?k=RX+580

It's still fine for low-medium 1080p gaming, and will do those games you mention just fine.

Used video cards, you could probably find a genuine RX 580 even cheaper.

is the CX series quite similar to the CV series? The CV is only at Tier D unless it's 650w and above. The only CX I see in Tier C and above is the CX-M which I know is higher quality. I had a CV450 and it did fine for me but I was only using a 10100f and gt 1030. Though the fact I only got to sell it for £30 isn't a great sign

off the top of my head the CX is acceptable enough, and defenately better than the "unknown value of a power supply known to have been a bait&switch and potentially lying about their 80+ cert as a result".

Here's the part list sorry about that. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/n7szwg. I noticed that filpo's recommendation was pretty similar to my build except I went with 32 gigs of ddr4-3600. I also managed to knock off $40 dollars on a used 5700xt

kinda shitty you're asking for $550 builds and then come up with 659$ build - not a big difference, just 20% of your total budget.

5600g is with integrated graphics and has only pci-e 3.0 lanes and will have weaker performance due to 16 MB L3 cache.

Rx6600  / RX 6600 xt is 200-230$ new on newegg, it's only a bit slower than 5700xt but at least you get it new

There's a 6650XT at $239

The used 5700xts on eBay are damn near a must for budget builds right now.  They're about the same as a 6600 or 3060 for SIGNIFICANTLY less, while still using GDDR6 VRAM and a relatively modern architecture

For $500 even, here's my take:

  • The 3600 is fast enough for the 5700xt
  • The motherboard is decent and has wifi and bluetooth onboard
  • That Red Devil is arguably the best ccooler for the 5700xt, and someone has one on eBay as a 'Buy it Now' for $150 right now.  (PowerColor Red Devil AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card (AXRX 5700 XT | eBay).  I use it myself and it's great.
  • 16GB of RAM is kinda the minimum but it's good enough for gaming and you can get another kit later if you need.  Conversely, the 32GB kit is $20 more so it's your call.
  • A 1TB gen 3 drive is plenty fast and it should have enough spcae for a little whiile
  • The case comes with all the fans you need, and those fans have molex connectors so the motherboard being basic isn't an issue.  It also has decent airflow and more space to work than you think once you remove the 3.5in drive cage.  It also has a lot of space for cables in the back panel.
  • The PSU is decent, but if you wanna save a little more, the 650w version is $5 less and the 550w version is $10 less.

A mix of new and used gets you a 5600(x) and 6700xt

Used 5600(x) should be around 80$, dont buy new am4 as its overpriced asf and the 12600kf is a much better option new

You can buy used midranger b3/450 like the tomahawk or equivalent for ~50$ but i left a new option incase you dont wanna look for used boards, theres also the b450m pro4 r2.0 at the same price if you wanna run a 4 stick config

Used 6700xt ~200$, look around on fb marketplace or other classifieds sites, for other used gpu options theres the 5700xt, 6600(xt)/6650xt), 2070s, 3060ti/3070

Look for a used case cause you dont wanna be spending 50$ on a hunk of metal that doesnt contribute to performance, might even get a free one if someones throwing a case out

Overexaggeration unless you can prove it

Heres the amazon reviews for the apevia galaxy units, the 1 star reviews seem to be mostly issues regarding doa or early failiure and the 4/5 star reviews are just working units

And the 550w is garbage value as you can get the 750w for an extra 10$

Still garbage value compared to used ~50$ rm(x) or equivalent 750/850w which is what id personally reccomend if you wanna cheap out on psus the proper way since these should still handle 90 class cards and be reusable for the next upgrades or next builds unlike new lowend crap 650/750w units at the same price

Next step up is an 850w with a 10 year warranty like the gf1 at 95$ cause its stupid to buy new and not have a proper warranty (minimum 10 years) otherwise you might aswell buy used and save the money whilst still getting a capable psu or buy the cheapest new psu thats good enough for your build aka a throwaway unit you upgrade as soon as you do a gpu upgrade

You can't justify a $40 cooler with this budget.  I like basic boards, but that's a bit much for how much more you can get for a little less.  people generally expect wifi these days and bluetooth goes a long way.

A used 5600x is not $80.  They're $130.  It's still way too new to expect that kind of discount, as most people aren't dumping them and won't be for a long time.

And used cases are great if you know someone, but they're expensive to ship, and doing a whole meetup for $10 saved on fb marketplace or craigslist is often not worth it.  A new one can be shipped for free, come with all the hardware, and can be had for $0.  You might not even find one available in your area for that.  OE desktop cases can be problematic if you don't know how to rewire them, and they usually only have one 92m fan in the back and no intake fans.  I'd just cut the crap and get a new, cheap case.

You can carry the cooler over to new cpus, otherwise just buy a 775 copper core and ziptie mount it as those will be much better than a crappy wraith stealth

Board wise might aswell just buy used and get a better board for less if new is that bad value wise, am4 is overpriced new anyways

Its already 3.5 years old by now released nov 2020 and theyre kinda weak compared to a 12600k let alone a 5800x3d, 7600x, 7800x3d, 13/14600k

In my country theyre definitely overpriced used to the point that you are better off buying a new tray 5600 for 110$ or a 5500 for 80$ (id choose the latter and run ddr4 4400/4600 to make up for the cache), but my country is a developing country so i guess its to be expected but i have no clue why used 6700xt are 180$ if used ryzen cpus are overpriced and midranger b3/450 are around the 60$ mark

But in more developed countries theyre already going for around that used, last time i checked uk fb marketplace some were even going as low as 70£

Also 3600(x) are ~50$ used

A free new case?

Here in indo used cases are kinda meh when theres 3-4 fan airflow cases for like 30$ but if you can only get meh cases for 50$ might aswell just buy used, and airflow isnt a problem if you just take the sidepanel off or if you want to use fans take the solid front panel off

shipping is also a concern but i assume over in developed countries thered also be shops that sell this stuff for cheap or ewaste centers or something like that so not a meet but more like going to a store

Used cases are around 3$ on the online shop i use and cargo shipping is 2$

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look into those and to the guy that said that it's wrong of me to ask for $550 Builds and come up with a $659 build. It literally is a $600 dollar build with the used 5700xt I said that previously. I also might use Somerandomtechyboi's recommendation because I would get more performance for less than what I had come up with.
